For greasing the suspension, changing wheels and pads I use a single seater race car quick-lift jack with a piece of 4x2 timber bolted to the pad. It raises the chassis enough to get both wheels on an axle clear of the ground. It is also secure and safe to work on the car.
The 4x2 timber has a 1/2" groove cut along its length and this locates the front crossmember bottom tube and prevents inaccurate location and the crossmember sliding off.
For the front, the jack slides under the front number plate.

For the rear, it slides under the rear chassis crossmember.

The 4x2's length is equivalent to the width of the front crossmember's middle section. Mine is shorter due to the oil filter protrusion thereby restricting the available space.
The 4x2 is fixed using bolts and finger-tight nuts for speedy removal and transfer to a trolley jack when I need greater lift.
The 4x2 spreads the load and is significantly better than using a jack directly on the crossmembers where they may dent and otherwise cause damage.
