There are a multitude of questions and answers on the motorbike website horizons unlimited.com - there is a section on insurance, which would mirror your aims.
And keep us in touch with whatever you do..!!
Good luck..

Hagerty had a lot of restrictions on their policy when I inquired. You can try Grundy Insurance as they seemed reasonable... or I use All State to insure the Mog and they have been very good to work with so far.
If you happen to come through Michigan let me know and we can get a drink and bite to eat on your way through!

Thanks for the comments people.
I am doing the trip in September over 3-weeks so no records are in danger. My plan at the moment is something along the lines of:
New York Washington Waynesboro Galax Maryville Clarksville St Louis Kansas City WaKeeney Denver Glen wood springs Moab Monument valley Grand Canyon Needles Santa Monica Morro Bay Carmel San Francisco
I still have time to change my mind though.
I will try the companies and sites suggested and let you know how I get on.
Thanks everyone.

Thanks everyone. Hello and here's wishing you a great trip... I live in the greater St. Louis area. I see you're taking Interstate I-70 across mid America. I-70 goes from the St. Louis straight to Kansas City. All nicely maintained roads. Depending on what your schedule is when you get closer, September is quite a ways off yet, maybe you can stop at our place for a little rest and possibly an overnight if it works out. Again, good luck with your pre-trip planning and insurance etc.

Thanks for the offer. That is very generous and I may well take you up on that.

... My plan at the moment is something along the lines of:
New York... Grand Canyon Needles Santa Monica Morro Bay Carmel San Francisco ... Hwy 1 is of course a classic road trip (Santa Monica to San Fran) but it seems a shame to leave out the Sierras / Yosemite. Maybe cut across from Watsonville if you have time? If not, then certainly consider a detour en route to Half Moon Bay by taking a R up 84 (nice road) to San Gregorio General Store (and then over the top of the coastal mountains and down to Silicon Valley). I came across an Ariel Atom there a few years ago (driven by a nice English lady) which was a rare surprise for the US motoring scene (and somewhat put my rental Dodge Challenger in the shade...).

If you can drive San Fran to Santa Monica and not the other way around. Then you'll be on the coast side of the road....better views and easier to pull over to take a look etc.

You will be in New York so you should see Niagara Falls while you are there. Kind of touristy but spectacular none the less.
