True. In the end the only answer is to shop around. The premium will depend on a lot of different factors from post code to driver age and record

I,ve insured my Aero through AIB and A plan. Each year that ask for more and each year the other quotes less and then the others retaliate until we return to a similar level as the previous year and we move on.

MX5 was exactly the same, but 20-30mins on the phone has saved me about £230 on both cars. However it infuriates that even with the same underwriter I can not add both cars together….I can after all only drive 1 at a time and both live at the same address and have the same levels of cover. Multi policies are too expensive when both are limited milage toys.

By limiting annual mileage to 5k and excluding business use - although such intended use would only be on those vary rare summer days its actually dry for long enough and the route to my meeting venue being potentially interesting enough to warrant rolling out the Aero - I'm now down at circa £900. I suppose I can live with that and it is on an 'agreed value' basis as well. Given that I'm shelling out quite a considerable sum for the car it does seem a but churlish to be griping over a few hundred quid.
Still insistent on Tracker although I've made a FOI request to Police Scotland to determine how many 'Tracking' capable cars they have and how many are actually out during a normal shift pattern. It'll be interesting to know if nothing else.
Thanks for all the comments/advice..

I have all our cars covered under the Admiral Multicar - or should I say I (shortly) did.

Was £1200 previous three years.
19 Years protected NCB for the wife and I.
1 speeding offence between us (still amazed at that)

I had the issue with some pleb backing into it in the Oracle car park and they were great in handling it, permitting the factory to do the repair etc.

Renewal came through last week £3580. I asked why, they prevaricated and blustered and had no response. We went through trimming milage here and coverage there. Got it down to £2960.

They assured me that it was not down to the claim and my protected NCB was still intact.

Out looking now. According to the market insurance has gone up 17% - not in my world.

Until this last year I have used the IAM insurance agent in Norniron. They have/ had a deal with Aviva that allowed them to match the lowest price I could get elsewhere and the policy they offer is a good one with a reputable company. So our car insurance and bike insurance has been cheap even for the Lotus. The latter was usually below £200. In fact the insurance deal is the only reason I have kept the IAM membership going and still do.

Unfortunately they baulked at the latest toy cars value.

I had insurance with Churchill, until a scrape in a car park while unattended. The repair was dealt with very well.
However, on renewal the premium shot up, which was due to the car park claim (only £800).

I went to a local broker instead who got me a much better deal.
He said that the practice you have been a victim of Alistair is common with the big name insurers (Admiral, Churchill et al) as far as I understood from what he was saying.

All very good until something happens, then "whoa, where did that come from?".

Adrian Flux, always good to me but rural area, garaged, over 60, full Ncb, 4000 miles, advanced driver etc etc but my 86 car is old so £155 fully comp, agreed value is OK by me.
But it's not an Aero

I renewed our works fleet earlier this week, we don't have the best record as a result of a couple of accidents in the last 24 months but the premium stayed the same and we've been told next year it will go down so a 17% increase seems harsh.

I cannot get my head around that much of an increase. What is the point in paying extra for a protected NCB then they up your premium almost threefold.
Surely this comparable with the bank PPI scandal.

A lot of car insurance is discounted to sucker in new business and then it goes up, year on year. So for the 2 Mercs we get a new policy with one of 4 Companies each year for each car.

Even so this year we have seen increases of 10%, but lower than average.

This article is interesting. Lots of reasons, but nothing that properly explains WHY. Some excuses by the AA

1. Partly down to a tax hike imposed last year. The standard rate of Insurance Premium Tax – the tax paid each time an insurance policy is purchased in the UK – increased from 6% to 9.5% on 1 November 2015, as announced in the Summer Budget.

2. Michael Lloyd, director of AA Insurance, says personal injury claims – particularly those for whiplash – also continue to "haunt" the industry. It's estimated false and exaggerated claims add around £50 to the cost of every policy.

Research by AA Insurance last year suggested 11% of drivers thought it acceptable to make an insurance claim for an injury following a collision, even if none was suffered.

So, we are paying for greed, selfishness and incompetence.

As usual. hide surrender
