I would welcome any opinions on the benefits, or otherwise, of changing from rectangular to round door mirrors.

I have a 2008 4/4, one of the last 'bespoke' models prior to introduction of the 4/4 Sport, and despite trying the various options by moving the sprung arms have never been very happy with the rearward vision through the rectangular door mirrors, particularly on the nearside.

Is a change to round mirrors likely to offer any improvement, other than the fact that I think they look better? Also any recommendations for replacements - eg the factory offering v Librands etc.

Mine had already been changed to round when I took ownership. I think they were from Heart of England Morgans. Rear vision is not great. I wish they were a bit bigger in diameter. The quality is much better than the factory rectangular mirrors though.

Ive got the opposite situation. At the moment I'm running stainless steel rectangulars and I want to change to rounds ( aesthetic, nothing else)

As you know, I use Mike Duncan for a lot of my stuff and John W at HoE is next door.

I've seen John's round mirrors but what strikes me is that every set I've seen on a car, the centre retaining screw through the back plate is rusty. My conclusion- that bit of the mirror ain't stainless.

Ben D has come up with a nice 'slant' on this. We're planning to use Suzuki m/bike mirrors. These are round, v. good quality stainless and don't require the stalk mounting to be replaced.

I changed mine to the factory round convex ones. A great improvement IMHO and by far the cheapest option.

I had standard factory flat rectangulars on my 4x4 and found the vision fine on both.

The New Roadster 100 has standard flat factory rounds and while there is less overall width to the mirror I find them equally ok. Convexes should provide a wider reflection but smaller image.

One benefit I found with the Round is the ability to turn the mirror to achieve more angle options which would not be aesthetically do-able with rectangulars.

above 100miles they flip out of position

can you imagine doing a trackday with your side-mirrors out of position: well, it was VERY scary!!!!!

Mine don't flip. Maybe they are no originals. Anyhow... I'm very satisfied with them.

Going well. I think Ben's only problem at the moment is that the narrow boat he lives on is moored in the Marina at Stourport and he's been iced in for the last week.

I talked to him on the phone yesterday and he's thinking of reading Sir Earnest Shackleton's biography for a few tips!
