Every day of jumping into the Morgan for a drive is filled with excitement and joy for a fun day out. Except for today. For nearly 4 years, every time in my Morgan has felt like this. It's what I've wanted since I was aged 8 and saw a 4/4 four seater in yellow in the village that I grew up in supplied by Lifes Motors. My father went to marry my mother in a three wheeler driven by his nest friend and best man who was the jeweller inSouthport who had bought a succession of three wheelers off Billy Life so Morgans are in my genes. I am a Morganaholic and always will be. Buying a Morgan is always about buying it heart over head, there is no logic to have gone other than its just going to be bloody good fun.
Today I backed my beautiful 4/4 Sport out of the garage for probably the last time. I set off in the most beautiful sunshine and gave it the beans as was driving behind in the ubiquitous, grey boring BMW and couldn't catch me for dust. Where was I off to today? Off to take it to Lifes for them to try and sell it for us as head had to take over heart for business reasons. Today's drive made filled me with mixed emotions driving through the wind and sunshine. Lovely to be driving it but full of sadness as I felt I was being a traitor and the excecutiioner for being so disloyal as it's been so reliable during our ownership. We've had some superb drives out and adventures and hoped for man more together.
Head says, it needs to be sold, heart says - I hope nobody buys it. Some might say it's only a car, get over yourself, but we build up such a bond with these cars that I do feel like I've given my child away.
Being a Morganaholic I just hope this is a temporary situation.
Roger I know exactly how you feel I was in exactly the same situation a while back when I had to sell my first +8 to fund my sons education. He was a late developer and the +8 purchase was based on the 2 girls having finished Uni and him showing no interest in going on at the time.
I have never felt affected by the sale of any other car but that one.
Anyway a year later and I bought the Sport and the rest is history.
When you find yourself back in the saddle it is just as exciting the next time as they are all so different, I hope it won't be long for you.
Maybe the occasional hire if that works for you ?

Roger, sorry to hear that you've taken the next step to exiting Morgan ownership for the time being. Was my fettling on your Mog really that bad that you needed to get rid?
Ray - unfortunately, the BMW has prooved that it's as fast at depreciating as it is at the traffic lights grand prix, meanwhile, the Mog will probably return very close to what I paid for it so I couldn't defend it on that one.
Dave - next time, and there will be a next time, I'd still have one without the spare wheel as it's a bit lighter and better when giving it the beans! Thanks for your thoughts, and I'm glad I've got lots of good chums through Mog ownership and TM in particular. So you'll all just have to put with me...
Kev - you're right, I still feel I've sold my child and if South port were closer I'd be driving up there every day just to look at it through the glass. It sticks in my throat every time I just pop over to the garage.
Mark - it's strange isn't it. 3 years ago we bought a Freelander 2 as we were doing some long distance stuff regularly and were supposed to trade in the 12 year old Freelander with about 145k on the clock as we've had it since it was 6 months old and used it so much for work and carting stuff around for the properties it was like our van. On the morning we were doing the swap we decded we couldn't part ex it so kept it as well for doing all the rough stuff. The other project finished and the F2 just kept being parked on the drive as it wasn't worth choking it up for local mileage so we then sold it and the F1 is still with us at 154k as we just love it to bits. It somkes a bit from time to time on start up and doesn't look quite it's best but we just love it.
Thanks Neil and Richard - that's good to know. Ricahrd, as you say, circumstances just dictate things at times and the tough decision has to be taken.
David - thank you. Thanks again for your fettling - certainly wasn't bad - and mucha aprpeciated. It was a nice way to spend a couple of hours too.
Around 100 miles through the Weinviertel in glorious early autumn weather. Three old Mogs and their youthful crew on a rare occasion when all three Navigators were able to sharpen their skills and the pilots could could practice remembering to turn their indicators off after turning. The pic is a coffee stop somewhere..
What a cracking Morgan day..! A forecast of cool at the outset but dry with the promise of warming up after lunch was too much to resist. Rolled the wheels down to the Cotswolds with a passenger I've not had chance to catch up with for a while and had a lovely lunch at Burford.
Detouring home in the hot sunshine, it was a great day to be out with nothing more to worry about than what's around the next bend.
