A good perusal of this Forum mentions noises galore and I think I have heard most after our recent 1500 mile trip to the sodden North.

The weirdest of these is a random substantial tapping behind the dash, which doesn't appear to coincide with bumps, rpm or anything. Sounding like someone tapping a screwdriver against the frame.....

Creaking and groaning from the belt is irksome in a city when not drowned out by the exhaust, but the belt has slackened off over my Scottish tour of 1500 miles or so. Anything but the most considerate operation of clutch results in my aforementioned burnt rubber pong. The belt isn't jumping, but it may shimmy across to rub on the flange of the sprocket under such circumstances. God knows ;-)

Various bits (minor) have fallen off, as a result of vibration but most annoying is a broken headlight shell. I read here that this can be as a result of over tightening to prevent the whole assembly loosening.

I gave up keeping a number plate as it falls off after repeated refining over potholes.

Generally the Mog was a joy on open roads and is the first vehicle I have had that is capable of making every one else smile (unusual on today's roads)....even if we weren't always so delighted (i.e. in a traffic jam).

Since the rain fell unabated, and we somehow found ourselves in a stream of Belgium Morgans, I thought I'd mention one Mog with a hood (stretched from a raised windscreen to behind the roll over protectors). Looked handy, but never seen this mentioned here.

I don't think these 'half hoods' have ever been mentioned, but they were originally developed by a company called Soft Bits and whilst I doubt they have actually designed a half hood for a Mog, of any sort, they are always up for something new. Their website here:

Ref tapping behind the dash, try greasing your bonnet tapes with grease or Vaseline, yes honestly!
Have you considered using number plate screws in lieu of double sided pads? Should solve your problem.

What are "bonnet tapes" Taffmog? I would suggest checking the steering wheel quick release, it rattles under some acceleration vibrations. Put some masking tape over the splines then fit the wheel. Thanks to P964 for that solution, I think?

Ref the creaking and groaning from the drive belt, do you have an alloy rear drive sprocket or a steel one? If it is an alloy one, that could be your problem at 3500 miles. They last about that long before wearing out.

The bonnet tape is attached to the bulkhead where in contact with the bonnet. I had the tapping problem on mine, exactly the same symptoms as Bencmaster's, sounded like a nest of woodpeckers!

Thanks Taffmog, now understand. The 3M anti chaffing stuff. You could be right, little things can make a big difference with annoying noises and this car is full of them.
