Yes I think it would have been a better choice for the ARP4 too. The 220hp version would be my choice as it has that all important mid-rnage torque for a fast road car. Certainly If I ever replace my motor I will go that way.

I'm not sure about the Baby Doll but there was certainly a falling out over emissions on the Plus 4 SS. This issue has now been resolved and I see signs that a more normal relationship seems to be returning.

i still wonder where is the need for a bigger engine ,more power, and

more torque than the arp4 has.The car is very fast when you want it

and has enough torque to run quietly in fifth.

I am sure that the

torque of the roaster is too high for the rear classic suspension.

Its the Cosworth name that sells cars, not the size of the engine.

And there was me having been brought up to think size was everything. I put it down to being sent to a boys boarding school at an early age.

More seriously, the ARP4 will trickle around at low revs, and very smoothly too, but there is no real urge to go anywhere until the revs are well over 3000, and since 3000 revs equates to around 70mph it means changing down a gear or even two, to acelerate out of an Audis way, in lane 3.

For me the 2.5 engine is just so flexible. Driving along the motorways in France, fully (or excessively) loaded, the car will comfortably sit at 80 irrespective of gradient and but pull like a train to 100+ without needing to drop a gear. It does go ballistically when using the revs and gears, but this would be pretty wearing (and frightening) over a long period.
