Peter,

this may well be the future engine for the Aero...the new motor unit from the BMW 740e. Remember the present BMW V8 is from the old 740...

It is a 254bhp 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor between the petrol motor and autobox, giving combined peak outputs of 322bhp and 369lb ft. Not very much less than the 4.8L V8....

The official combined economy figure is 134.5mpg, with CO2 emissions of 49g/km:a world away from the V8 which puts out about 245g/km...... Real world it will probably manage 60mpg, which is a big improvement on 25....!

The 740e can travel up to 25 miles on electric power alone and it can be charged in less than four hours from a domestic socket, or in under three hours from a 32amp wall charger.

The combustion engine kicks in at 50mph under Auto eDrive's control or if the throttle is pressed heavily. In the MAX eDrive setting, it has an all-electric top speed of 87mph.

The customer profile will also need to be looked at....how many of the old school owners will there be?
At TOTH we spoke to a factory person who told us they were closely looking at profiles of owners and what a Morgan needed to be to continue. What do they need to evolve to attract customers who are not old school traditionalists ( my words) who will eventually fade?
Resurrection of M3W seems to have been a success despite the underdevelopment, a fairly modern take on an old theme.

I suppose that considering the work that has been done in recent years to increase the longevity of the trads there will be enough knocking around second hand for a good few years to see us all out. We have to remember our children's' generation have grown up with soft Citreon Saxos and the such like that are very far removed from what we all grew up with.

Neither!
Probably stay very much as they are today, possibly increasing slowly as time goes by.

Of course in 2057 all trads will be classified as "Classics!!" . . . Assuming the rolling 40 year rule remains.

I suppose it depends on what replaces the trad and how much it costs.
If the new trad is significantly better then it could go the other way.
Probably the best comparison would be the last of the trad chassis +8 and the aero chassis +8.

I reckon thats optimistics as certainly is the 49g/km 35/40 mpg is more like it -its a big car, moving it about takes energy and no way has engine efficiency even in F1 improved by more than a third if that.

But I reckon MMC would be missing a trick if they simply stuffed into the Aero the engine from an eco box big saloon. Better the engine from something sporty like the M3 or even the M1. And they already have links with Ford so how about one of their small block sporty V8s

Cant see why the aero chassis can not be scaled down to keep the car the same size as a +4. and use a modern ford engine. Unless that would make type approval a problem.

Vehicle platform Evora
This is written in a way that suggests that this type of chassis can be used as a basis for a number of different vehicles.

But being honest now, we know that aluminium doesn't have a long life and suffers a high write off rate.the aero chasis is unrepairable if it's hit anything harder than a hen crossing the road....so in 2057 there certainly won't be any 40 year old ones around will there. I bet there will still be the 1950s ones still plodding around......

We saw the Evora base when we did Lotus. It's a nice solution, a centre tub section with bolt on front and rear crumple zones.
This design allows different front and rears so Morgan could easily adapt this modular approach.
