I do think the design of the Tesla leaves a bit missing. I like the car in general but a bit more "individuality" would pep it up. As for these types becoming more common, there are still big issues to resolve. Cost to buy if a private buyer. Range on electric power. This makes them a better option as a family car. Access to chargeing. Future tax issues re electricity for vehicles to replace petrol duty. Will petrol duty rise to compensate for less revenue and a way to reduce petrol use as per tobacco?

Well, I am on 45,000 miles on mine. I disagree about home charging on single phase being an issue.
The car charges overnight at 20-22 miles of charge approx. per hour on single phase. Given that real world range is circa 200 miles on mine it means I can start each day fully charged for about £5 of electric.
Plus, I have been able to drive to Geneva for the motorshow in just an hour and a half less than I did it in a petrol car but entirely free as the Tesla supercharger network is free and rapid charges the car (empty to full in 1 hour 20) typically being able to add about 50-60 miles of range in a 10 minute tea/rest stop.
The i8 looks good (from most angles) but really doesn't perform that well by comparison to the Tesla.
Big plus point though is the service Tesla offer. My car had to have a bit of body and paint work done after a prang at Fast Lane. When complete they booked it into Tesla to re calibrate all the sensors etc.
When the car came back to me Tesla had done a lot of warranty work (without me even realising the car had issues). The best was they replaced the electric drive train because they felt it was a bit noisy at low speed! So after 40,000 + miles they have for free put in a new motor without anyone realising there was an issue. they also changed a few other items they weren't happy with, something inside the door relating to the door handle and part of the suspension, I forget which bit.
Out of interest, the car comes with a 4 year 50,000 mile warranty on everything apart from the battery and motor. they both have an 8 year unlimited mileage warranty!
And for those worried about battery degradation, mine has lost about 6% of overall range since new but interestingly, the degradation appears to be slowing and this seems to be the experience of most others too.
Now I have moved out of Berkshire to the sticks near Ludlow, the car is indeed a bit big for the single track lanes that surround me but it's manageable. I do have a deposit down on both an EV3 and a Tesla model 3, both of which should cope better :-)

Thanks for the information on the living with the car - I'm sure others have found it interesting as well. It comes out favourably to me.

Good info on living with a Tesla. The positives based on actual experience are showing how far out the doubters can be. Now.....all I need to do is manipulate the "man maths" to convince in readiness for our next car change! With our current (no pun!) car requirements I can see electric as ok. She is the main tintop user while I have the Morgan!

I've only been in a Tesla once ( some taxi firms use them in London) Hugely impressed! They always look a bit Jaguar like to me (a good thing) I'd love one. Simon

Got to admit I am not a fan of electric cars, but I think the Tesla's look very smart, and are going to be hugely popular soon once the Model 3 is out as it will be far more affordable, is still bonkers fast and costs peanuts to run.. that's going to sell. Plus the more they sell, the better the network gets and so opens another can of worms. In my mind I would far prefer a proper hybrid ala P1, LaFerrari style whereby lost energy is stored for additional performance - but unfortunately I feel the future is going to be electric cars due to the buzz around them at the moment. Which is a shame as electricity isn't exactly green itself. Still - this video is pretty fun to watch (to the end): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVXa6i3iqHw

Good info on living with a Tesla. The positives based on actual experience are showing how far out the doubters can be. Indeed. One is reminded of all the Doom and Gloom merchants circulating horror stories about electronics reliability and battery life when the Toyota Prius was first launched. If I'm still working in a year or so I can see myself going for a Tesla 3, but when I retire the plan is just to use the Morgan for as long as I can.
