A Dutch colleague pointed this article out to me:

According to this, Morgan had a record year in sales with 690 cars sold. Despite the economic downturn the sales in France and Germany grew strongly. While sales in the UK remained flat around 280 cars.
For 2010 Morgan hopes to build 740...750 cars in total.
As the SuperSports can be sold in the US market, Morgan sees a potential for up to 200 units sold in the US.

I am sure the Supersport will sell easily, a beautiful car limited edition and much publicity during the 100th year. I am sure the factory will be working hard on the next version.

That is fantastic news. Probably in some sort of ratio to the number of new Members joining the MSCC.

If anyone thinks there could be a shortage I believe that this little darling is still sadly languishing down there in Taplow Bucks at SGT

I find it hard to believe tht 'Lellow' is still homeless, especially since I 've come across a number of new Morgan owners lately who have paid what can be regarded as 'strong' money for trads which quite honestly weren't worth it

690 is an impressive figure... I somewere read that they had a year where they produced not even 100 a year (70/80ies?)

to add - in the german forum is a post about some stats for germany 2009:
- overall 2129 registered morgans per end of 2009
- 103 (!) new registered 4/4 in 2009
- 17 other new registered morgans in 2009 (no further break down)

100 cars built per year in the 1970s/1980s is VERY pessimistic indeed. In those days the production was slightly above the 400 mark.

The 100 cars per year might be the number of cars sold to Germany in those days.

There are well documented sources which show that in 1971-1972 the build process for a car was approximately 3 months. In September of 1972, when Peter Morgan acquired an extra 12,000 feet of factory floor space, he hoped that this would allow him to increase production to about 750 cars a year.
However, principally because the cars were becoming more complicated, this scale of increase was never realised and figures for that period ( such as 1976-77) show that some dealers were quoting customers a ten year delay between placing an order and having the car delivered

I believe that the wait varied from Dealer to Dealer, for example I placed an order direct on the factory for a Plus 8 in 1976 and it was delivered in July 1982 - 6-years to the month.

I'm sure that is the case. My father ordered his last Morgan round about the same time( might have been a couple of years or so later) and we had a similar 'time window' quoted to us by Derek Day

I seem to recall he was quoted shorter times by some dealers ( John Britten I think- remember those poems in the "Motor Sport" ads!) but whether this was for a new car or one which had been purchased by an individual and then immediately sold on, I'm not absolutely sure
