Funny that. I have a stainless steel dog food bowl that might end up as a scoop för the intake. Also £3, at a jumble sale.

A little dissapointed to find the OE filter on my 2016 car is also an oil soaked, pleated cotton material re-usable type like the K & N one just purchased. Being slightly larger in diameter though, the original fits perfectly around the four mounting supports without modification.

I wonder therefore if the improved breathing muted in the various stage 1 options, is achieved by dispensing with the snug fitting cover which only has a significant opening at the bottom.

That was my theory as well. It breathes easier now, open all the way around.
I even thought about having louvres made in the standard cover, but scrapped that idea when I found my front cover. Also wanted to keep the original part intact.

Exactly! The G56 cover is bigger all round and allows more air in through the 'Spitfire Oil Cooler-esque' scoop on the bottom. Also doesn't breath in too much water nor get soaked through when it rains overnight.
