Where did you get your clock from, or was it a factory original?

P.S. I like your red knob too (the gear lever that is).

The clock is a VDO one that was factory fitted. Strangely the original bezel was black plastic instead of black metal like the others

I got the gear knob from someone in The States a couple of years ago

It was designed to fit an older car so I had to retap the ali socket to my stick

My replacement bezels arrived in the post this morning Stewart.
Another Winter job lined up!

What kind of silicone have you used to glue them in place?
And is it a pain to clean up afterwards? The stuff in our bathroom is a right old b***r to clean off where it has left a very thin coat.

first I snipped off the lugs and polished the burr smooth

I then got some very strong thin double sided tape and cut some thin strips and put three inch long pieces into the inside of the bezel equally spaced to act as a grab so i dint have to hold the bezel on for 24 hours to wait for the silicone to go off.

I then got some clear silicone adhesive from an arts and craft supply shop which came in a small tube with a long nozel on

Maplin have the same stuff - you need a small tube instead of one of these big DIY decorators tubes as it's small precision work

I then worked out where the bezel will touch the existing bezel by doing a test fit on one without the tape and put an even bead of silicone in-between the tape

The first one of each size didn't work too well the first time around because i don't think i had the position of the tape in the right place and enough silicone so i just took it off and re-did it

I didn't have any over-spill of silicone although there is just a small gap on the large bezel where if you looked from one angle you can see a small blob

I might just cut it away with a scalpel when i have a minute

Other than that - just approach it methodically and carefully and I'm sure it will be fine

Mine are all on and rock solid and very pleased with the result

Baby wipes are good for getting off smears of silicon.....seriously!

But do not flush them down the loo!!!

It is a long time since there were any babies in this house but we have a regular bulk order for baby wipes.

It began when we had a new Karndean floor fitted in the kitchen and the fitter recommended them for getting the excess glue off and then regular quick cleaning.We have since found that they will clean up just about anything - particularly silicone and Sikaflex/Tiger Seal

As above, we never flush them as they are becoming a major problem for the water companies.

I don't have grandchildren yet, but does it clean them up as well?
