Does anyone know
1)if the filter can be cleaned & re-used
2)after approx what mileage it should be replaced
3)the ref/make/model of the new filter
4)how on earth you remove the pipe connectors to the filter!
Presumably there's residual pressure in the system?...how can that be eliminated before filter removal?
1: There are two filters. The canister above the tanks is one and there is a small mesh filter on the bottom of the fuel pump. There is nothing extraordinary about the mesh filter on the pump. It mostly runs interference for the very fine filter canister that cleans the fuel up so that the injectors don't get plugged up. If either gets gummed up there is no cleaning them. Total replacement.
2: When they don't work anymore.
3: Don't know.
4: Very carefully! There are special tools made for this. Google to your heart's desire. Pick a low profile plastic model as the metal ones can damage the clips and they won't work anymore. Don't ask me how I know this... The fuel lines are made this way for ease of assembly. They are pre-made with the right length so that, with a minimum of fuss, they are installed without tools and need no adjustment. There are two lines attached to the canister and the clearance is such that it looks impossible to remove. Removing the fuel pump lines is relatively easy.
5: There is residual pressure that slowly bleeds off. Let it sit over night to bleed off and you won't lose very much fuel at all. There will be no pressure.
