Hi to all,
This year pulling the year out of winter storage is proving to be a pain. Mid way through winter the battery gave up completely so I just left in the car to sort out later. On replacing the battery I was unable to deactivate the immobiliser, so replaced key fob battery still no go on starting. Fortunately the spare fob deactivated, however the car still failed to start, heard no familiar squeaking from the fuel pump, replaced the relay and the car started ok. I left the car for a week or so gave it a thorough wash and went for a spin. The car started fine and off I went but the indicators failed to operate, so did the hazard lights, returned home. Everything else seems to be working ok. Once home activated the immobiliser and noticed the dash LED light not flashing. The key fob still deactivates the immobiliser and the car starts. So trouble shooting began, dash pulled out, no loose connectors checked the under dash fuses all ok. After a considerable amount of time tracing wires and trying to decipher various wiring diagrams found a 3 amp in line fuse by the battery had blown, replaced and it blew immediately. The purple/red wire from the fuse connects to the LED, a yellow wire from the LED looks like it connects to the immobiliser box. From the wiring diagrams it also looks like purple/red is also connected to the two indicator relays. So the problem may be the relays or the immobiliser. Has anyone in the forum had a similar issue?

Have a look in gomog and open the section on the EFI .
You could also try RPI Engineering. They have expertise on maps and systems for Rover V8's and can help withthese types of problems. Have a quick look at their info articles too, the link to efi and carburation.

Hi to all,

Getting to bottom of my electrical issues, everything now works with the exception of the hazard lights which when switched on blows a 5amp in line fuse by the battery. Tracing the wire back to the dash it splits into four, with one going to the hazard switch, when disconnected fuse does not blow. There is no way the size of wire would power the hazard lights. One of the various wiring diagrams shows a hazard relay, hunting around in the mass of wiring I cannot find. Does any know if Morgan fitted a hazard relay and where it would be ?

The relays have shifted over time. Look on the bulkhead under the bonnet. If not there look under the dash either above the steering column or centrally. The relay may be shared with the indicators so set the indicators going and hunt the click.

In my 1997 +4 it was hidden in the mass of wires below the 4 small gauges, just swinging in the breeze as it were

Hi Dave,

I have found the indicator relay and works the indicators ok from the column switch. It's a SY-205 25W x 2(4) which I think is not rated for working the hazards.

Thanks for the reply

Assuming no side repeaters the bulbs are 21W each, 4 of them at 12V is 7 amps - try a larger fuse? Seems the most obvious to me.

Could use a multimetre to check....

Paul,

Is the Immobiliser an aftermarket one, could the problem with that cause your hazard issue as they are connected. I had my 4/4 electrics tidied up behind the dash and trust me they were a nightmare. Colour codes meant nothing and relays hanging in mid air were common. connections to fuses were haphazard and not as labelled.

On a second point, You live in Australia man we do not do "Winter Storage" we just have the occasional day it is unpleasant to drive. Hang on you live in Victoria...... somestick

Hi Graeme,
The immobiliser I have fitted is the standard Rover 10AS. You may have a point with the immobiliser as the power supply that keep blowing the fuse appears the be connected to the imobiliser via the hazard switch and switched independently from the indicator circuit. I am hesitant to increase the fuse rating as I have had the car for over 10 years with no issues. All good fun!

On you second point, it is the first year the car has been laid up for the winter, a lesson well learnt never again.
