On my ride in the ARP4 Mark said they have a "special understanding" with the local Police whilst test driving !!!

Surmising about why people change, even though they have explicitly said why, does rather muddy the water,
Merely a thought derived from my understanding that none of those AR's that had found their way back on the market had been spec'd with power steering. Your observation about muddying waters would have bearing only if I too was aware of the explanations offered by other owners. As it happens you surmised incorrectly. This said, reading the detailed explanation provided by rid is not only enlightening but very interesting. Have to say I do remain somewhat bemused at some of the criticism of the AR. I've now clocked up 3,500m since July and having learnt to drive it with revs up high I absolutely love it - it's a fabulous bit of kit.

Sorry Bob, I incorrectly assumed you were following the thread.
There are various reasons why it is not practical to drive all the time, with the revs over 3k, chief amongst them is that it is noisy, wearing to driver and passenger, anti-social and it promotes more wear and tear in the engine [not much once warm admittedly, but more none the less]. Given that many owners are gentlemen above 60, who have done all that racing around at high revs stuff, I think that MMC possibly didn't correctly asses the possible owner profile correctly. Of course there will always be people who love to change gear and bomb around at high revs, but I would suggest they [you?] are in the minority?
I would say though that I am very impressed with the mapping, in that it is really smooth throughout the rev. range, especially at the lower end, there is no jerkiness or hiccuping at all and it pulls smoothly from 1000 rpm, just without much vigour until over 3000 revs. Other than that, I love it.

I liked the ARP4 as the sound , acceleration and individual looks made it stand out , mind you for approx £59k you expect quite a lot !

Me too When Mark Evans took me out in it, I was blown away with it, more with the suspension as much as anything, running over a very bumpy road at high speed As I wasn't driving, I wouldn't have noticed this issue that some have with the low rev torque so can't comment at all on that This thread has really made me want to drive one

Stewart , how about going down to Berrybrook ! A bit far and would be a bit disingenuous on my part as I'm not in position to buy one If a second hand one came into Lifes to sell, I think Dave would let me have a drive if I asked nicely

My + 4 was the press car that introduced electric power steering and I find it perfectly weighted, light at low speed and direct above about 20 mph. Very similar in fact to my Fiesta ST.
