Im looking to buy a m3w if i fit in one! After reading various threads on here it seems there are quite a few quirks with these cars, especially the early ones.. bevel box noise, sprocket and belt problems, bump steer, chassis flex/cracking etc, What upgrades are considered essential and should i be looking for on a possible purchase, or can anyone point me towards a list of the cost of the various parts? Cheers in advance

Dave. Most of the early cars will have been sorted/upgraded by now. I suppose beware of early cars with just a few hundred miles on then. There's loads of threads on this forum re purchase, problems, upgrades etc. Should keep up you out of the pub for most of the weekend (!) Where are you situated? I'm sure there will be an owner near to you that can guide you in the right direction i.e. Persuade you to buy one cos they are brill! Good luck with your search ...

Beware! You might find yourself grinning, or even laughing out loud. Addiction will then start to creep in...
I took a friend out for a drive yesterday and he was afflicted just so, despite being slightly car sick at the end of the twisties. He races (has raced?) Porsches and flies a single engine plane, so that surprised both of us. He was still grinning like a mad man, though.
On a side note - the engine really likes cold air. It was very "peppy" in the seven degree weather.
M3W, now!!!

Depending on the year of the car you need to check for: Crankshaft pulley upgrade - prevents crankshaft sprocket coming undone. Timing cover spacers- allows the cam belt to run cooler, some also have vented timing chest cover. Comfort kit - reduces bump steer Cooling pack - engine fan comes on below 10mph and over a certain high temp Chassis brace - prevents chassis twist and cracking, newer chassis have these welded in others are bolt in. Centra upgrade - great improvement over the original compensator NVH kit - reduces bevel box noise, personally I didn't think it made any difference. Steel rear sprocket - My aluminium sprocket wore out in 6000 miles

6' 1", 175lbs. and fit just fine. There's a tendency to complain on boards like these, so the problems seem more out sized than they are. If you're used to and demand a certain level of seamlessness, the M3W isn't for you...be it new or used, upgraded or not. If you really enjoy being at one with a machine (and nature) there's nothing like it.
You can't use the typical logic in justifying it's purchase. Go drive one and see if it moves you.

Steel rear sprocket - My aluminium sprocket wore out in 6000 miles +1 on all of these except the NVH which as RogG has seems to have little benefit. 2014 onwards have the cooling and Centra as standard. In terms of fitting into the car - if you are tall then a steering wheel spacer makes a huge difference. Also, if you do "test sit" in one try to make sure the pedals are in the furthest forward position. Good luck with your search

Early cars also had Rectifier issues and the fixing position on the front of the car was also changed.
Very many cars will have had all or most of the upgrades listed done.
If not then I would keep looking until I found one which has..or if at a dealer get them carried out.
Enjoy your search there are some lovely M3Ws out there.
