Never had to chance to drive a morgan before buying the first

one.

1 st 4/4 year 2000 was ok
2 nd 4/4 sport the suspension was too hard for me
3 nd arp4 all is perfect for me (it is better than expected)

I'm guessing that if this works without any damaging effects ,it would be easy peasy to fit a dashboard switch in the circuit so you could have on/off power steering.

It could be the Morgan version of 'adaptive traction control'

It would be very heavy I think having had electric power steering fail on mini fiat Punto and Vauxhall etc they are almost impossible to drive.
The electric motor does not disengage just switches off.

That's a different phenomenon. Modern front-drive tin-tops with PAS are designed with high positive castor angles to provide steering feel and weight to compensate for the PAS. This also gives improved high-speed stability and better initial turn-in. Without PAS, this geometry will feel VERY heavy.

On a trad Morgan with PAS, I doubt very much whether the kingpin inclination angle has been changed in order to compensate the PAS, consequently much lower levels of assistance are required and other than at parking speed the electronic torque applied to the steering will be minimal.
