I am a retired ex mechanic of 1948 vintage. The last classic car rebuild I did was a Triumph TR2 which I had to sell 45 years ago to raise the deposit for our first house. I now have the opportunity to buy one of the most beautiful cars in the world, a 1961 Plus4 2 seater roadster LHD. It has just been shipped from California and is a rebuild project but most of the work has already been done and it looks as though it has been done properly. The car is at least 95% complete but will need re-wiring and full upholstery refurb. All body panels are very good, just needs putting together, preparing and painting. The bulkhead has been painted already in what I thought was B.R.green but it could be Brunswick now I have seen a few pics.

I would like to convert it to RHD if at all possible, I have never driven a LHD and I have to say the prospect of having to do so does not fill me with joy.

I am looking forward to the steep learning curve I know I have to negotiate in order to get my Morgan back on the road so I will no doubt be asking for advice and guidance.

I have just realised that I started this post saying that I have the opportunity to buy and in my head I now already own it. I had better make the phone call and commit to the deal and remember to be very nice to my wife.

Nev.

Welcome Nev.

Looking forward to updates as you put the car back together.

As I understand it, converting a Morgan from LHD to RHD is straightforward - you must be able to find someone who has done it before to advise you.

Welcome from Wales, Nev.
Enjoy sorting the car and then driving it.
Keep in touch here with photos, progress etc..
Brace yourself for the humour in here too!
Do you like fish? laugh2

Oh yes....how many louvres on the car? hide

The reasons for the questions will reveal themselves in due course!

Welcome Nev to the dark arts of early +4 ownership- well once you've bought it!
IIRC the conversion to RHD on a 61 is really pretty simple. The main bits you need are a Dashboard ( although you can just reverse the LHD one and refinish the back if pushed. instrument panel is the same) and a right hand drive steering column. The pedals are much the same-just a change in the mechanical bracketry of the clutch operation. All the rest is cutting a few holes in the bulkhead and RH inner wing for the column and drilling holes for the steering box and brake master cylinder/pedals. Any vintage mechanic could do it! Have fun.

Welcome from sunny (well, today at least) Worcestershire.
Such bravery and skill - I am still in the foothills of Morgan lore.

Thank you for the warm words of welcome. Today I committed to the deal and now I just have to find a trailer to collect the car from deepest Derbyshire and bring her to her new home in lovely Lincolnshire.

I am pleased to hear that LHD to RHD is not too difficult so that will be one of the first tasks.

Nev.
