Thanks for the nice comments...

P Dron

Yes still on the oe Contis...they now "squeal" on corners when driven with gusto.

Every change you make shows up shortfalls on other components..so in time new sticky tyres will be called for.
Cain + others recommend Avons...but pricy .

Lets see what Father Xmas brings.

My 4/4, a year old, has the brake reaction rods and Panhard rod; at the front end it has the (non-adjustable) Suplex/Bilsteins. I find the handling balance is very good, while grip is never more than modest...

I think the Contis are fine on dry roads but rather scary on slippery surfaces, as you can go from low grip to no grip without warning.

I do wonder what the car would be like on the Contis with an extra 30bhp... I'd like a bit more low-end torque but overall I rather like the car as it is. You have to work quite hard to extract the best from it, which is pretty much what I was looking for.

Have you considered the Vredestein T-Trac 2?

Incidentally, my tyres also now squeal whereas when they were newer they made a strange sort of groaning sound when cornered hard.

P Dron, I have the T Trac 2 since one year and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. You keep the nice narrow look, have plenty of grip and a much better wet performance, best in its class. The grip is also good down to ca. 10 degrees C in the dry and on the other hand you can slide in the dry if you want as with the Contis but with much more confidence. The 4/4 is very good controllable due to her balance.

Another plus point is that the T Trac 2 weights about 1.8 Kg less than the Conti, note that the outer wheel weight is the most important. Another benefit is that the material is stabil but more compliant which means you can drive with 1.8 bar keeping a very good suspension of this tyre. And, it is simply cheap. I don't work for Vredestein.
