Despite trying 3 different grease guns, I cannot push any grease into the top nearside nipple. Changed the nipple but still won't accept grease. Any tips gratefully recieved

What year Roadster? At some point (after 2005) the stub axles changed from one (lower) grease point each side to two.
When I changed the pins on my 2005 Roadster, somebody had added upper lube bolts (the top fixing with the grease nipple), but the kingpins were not drilled. The replacement pins had a drilling down the centre with a very fine feed into the stub axle cavity. Take the nipple out and check with a length of wire if you have the drilling down the centre of the pin.
Don't worry too much because the lower grease nipple is sufficient on some cars.

As a matter of interest can anyone tell me approximately how many mls of grease a king normally accepts? Hmm. How long is a piece of string? It depends on how many miles it's been driven since the last greasing, how big the clearance between kingpin and bush, the prevailing weather and road conditions during use and so on. The usual advice is to pump until you can see grease emerging from the area around the base of the main spring. On my 4/4, greasing around every 1000 miles, this equates to between 6 and 9 pumps of my Wanner grease gun, but I have no idea what volume that equates to.

I asked because I wondered if there was any kind of reservoir for the grease. I just put ten pumps of grease of a different colour to the previous grease and none of the new was expelled. Just got a Wanner gun. Very well made and nice to use. The only place in the UK I could find that sold them was www.stephenslube.co.uk. (No connection etc)

John, read GoMog & particularly the piece about if new nipples are fitted. Maybe that is your problem or has the old grease gone hard? http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan9.html#Dynamics

How many miles since the last time it was greased? If it's been a while then this may not necessarily indicate a problem. On occasion in the past I have let mine get up to nearer 1500 miles before greasing, and the amount it took was quite surprising - I seemed to be pumping grease in for ages, certainly more than 10 pumps, probably nearer 15. OTOH, if you regularly grease at 1000 miles or less, and you don't have HC pins installed yet, then it could indicate your bushes are worn and need replacing. Have you checked the play in the kingpin?

I had chrome kingpins and bronze bushes fitted about 4000 miles ago. It has been about 1500 miles since Henrietta had a lube job by Berrybrook just before a 3000 milew rip to France. I have had a lot of difficulty getting hold of a Wanner grease gun = problem solved now I'm glad to say. Managed not get get any grease on me for once!! I have had remote greasing nipples fitted as I have physical difficulty getting under the car. These are a great help.
