My thinking is that you're not cooling it down, you're keeping the temp from going higher. When you pull in the garage and shut the ignition off, you've just taken away the effect of the onboard cooling fan AND the natural air cooling of moving along.

When you switch the engine off it stops burning fuel so there is no further waste heat produced. Overhaul the temperature of engine will drop from this point although certain localised parts may increase in temperature slightly for a limited time due to conduction from adjacent hotter parts and without the benefit of the convective cooling of motion.

Areas were this might be undesirable are metal fuel lines with consequent vaporisation of fuel within, leading to poor re-starting. I can see no likelihood, and have no experience of this happening on the X-Wedge though.

I could see it being an issue if oil were sitting in a place after shutdown that it could get start coking. Since it doesn't run a turbo, and even more so because the motor is even more out in the open and exposed than it would be in a bike, not crammed under a gas tank, seems like it wouldn't really be an issue. If it gives someone peace of mind though, It's not going to hurt anything.

For the next two days, before I lock the car up, I will be driving in temps near freezing. Air cooled engines love this! Biggest problem is getting the oil to heat up quickly in order to turn from glue to a lubricant.
