I wonder if it's dawned on Trumps family yet that they have just lost conventional 'freedom'. I don't think Billionaires have freedom - so no change for him he will still be hated for more reasons than his money now though. I will be very surprised if someone does not have a pop at him in the American way though with his attitude problems in so many contentious areas, freedom might be close in that event.

I wonder if it's dawned on Trumps family yet that they have just lost conventional 'freedom'. He still has more "freedom" than poor Harry and his rather delightful young lady. I feel sorry for anyone hounded by the media, especially as they may well have been a factor in his Mother's death. I wouldn't trade my life for his for all the money in the Bank of England.

Perhaps The Donald himself is the most surprised man on earth to become President. He is not really predictable from what has been seen so far. Ok, what can be seen is that he is neither the best educated and cultivated person nor a professionell politician (both this attitudes let him win) but with a little optimism in mind I hope he will listen to more professional advisers and the Republican Party would be wise not to let him stand isolated, even if they are also part of the "establishment" and will probably hate each other.
Here are many very eloquent and well thought posts on this thread, also those with focus on the general development in the western world/Europe concerning the last 30 years which I will agree with in general. So far, perhaps it is a "awaking call" if in the US of A someone like Trump says to the European, please help yourself a bit more since now.
Anyway, regarding our own problems, which are well described here, we really don't need The Donald making the scapegoat for our more and more rising problems with the far right wings, with the significant loss of living standards etc. Le Pen or the AFD in Germany could win independently of the developments in the USA. As has been said, we must (all) take care altogether not to regress in isolation and nationalisms (each).

Time to fight for CANZUK: a federation of people with common values, language and together a significant trading block. You mean that when Britain shafted the rest of the Commonwealth of Nations after joining the Common Market they made a mistake and it is now time to try to rebuild the trade links? Said as only someone who is outside the British culture can see it Peter True and funny all at the same time. There will be many of these moments moving forwards but as a Brit I will not see or hear many of them as I am part of it. Please do share all the external views as it is great to learn how we are viewed. I do mean that sincerely. It always better to be part of the joke !

The best jokes passed around here so far.
Obama walks in and say "you're hired" and the donald replies "yes and you're fired"
Milania walks in to the Whitehouse and just turns to the team and says "okay everybody get ready for it being turned into the Goldhouse, lets get moving"
The whitehouse team give the Trump his new Blackberry and his first response is "no thanks I will use my own, oops did I say that out loud"

I can't help but feel that an awful lot of people would benefit from listening to this year's Reith Lectures delivered by Kwame Anthony Appiah (4 x 30 mins lectures plus another 15 mins or so of questions and answers) - available on BBC iPlayer Radio 4.
If they did, they might feel a little differently about who they are, where they came from, why they feel the way they do about 'their own bit of the world' and most importantly how they view others that share that same world.

A view from a close friend in California who is a naturalised US Citizen. Prior to going to the US 30 years ago he was an NHS and RAF doctor
It's a protest vote against gridlock in Washington, political elitism, political correctness and business as usual. Hilary represents all of the above. If the Dems had nominated Bernie Sanders the same phenomenon might have worked for them, but unfortunately a lot of Americans don't understand the difference between democratic socialism and communism. Cheers and fasten your seat belt!

Methinks that the people have finally had enough of politicians pursuing their own agendas rather than representing the views of those that elected them.
