Morning all.

I've noticed my cars nears side mirror stem was looking rather sorry for itself. So I've tried polishing it but have inadvertently exposed the base metal doh In my defence it was bad and the lighting conditions weren't the best. The offside came up quite nicely.

Anyway, both bases are reasonably okay with minimal sign of deterioration in the chrome. So am I better replacing the poor near side stem/mirror with a new like for like item or replace both with the Williams type convex upgrade? Do they improve the view behind as stated? Presumably the later option will be more expensive.

Thanks in advance.

Andy

I replaced the whole lot with the stainless jobs from Peter Worrall. He does two types of head, I went for the larger versions and they give a great view.

There are a number of stainless versions out there Andy.
John Taylor (he of car cover "fame") is another supplier.
Also Librands.
Many dealers have various versions available too.

Big fan of the round mirrors with stainless stalks that I got from Morgan Hoods/ Phoenix Design

Revolutionised my near side rear visibility which was utterly hopeless with the factory fit oblong mirrors

Eureka! I can look back.
I have just fitted my John Taylor mirrors, and I can now see out of the nearside mirror on the move, and in the garage. Bliss. drive

And, there is a wide range of adjustment (due to a cunning slot) that allows you to point the mirror where you may.

OK, that's one winter job done (the easiest one).
