How would cooling down a motor more quickly extend the life of anything? Im baffled by this idea.

If anything, I would assume the gradual lowering in heat would be far superior to purposefully "flash cooling"

You'll be very happy with the Masterlube. They work great.

When I talked with them back in '00, they told me that they started by making them of the farming industry. When you've got a half a mil invested in one piece of equipment, you tend to take care of it and treat it right.

Thanks for the comment on the Willys. That's the only thing I've ever sold that I truly had seller's remorse.

I knew that Linda was usually one of the dignitaries at the St. Ignace Annual Car Show. This used to be the largest single day car show in the US.

In '01 I was picked to be the T-shirt clothing car. I went up to St. Ignace with a paint pen in the car so I figured I might get her to sign the dashboard.



She did... She is a great lady and has been very good for the US performance car industry, especially in the drag racing genre.

My logic is that when I pull into the garage, the engine temp is high enough that the fan is running... to keep the engine happier. When I turn that jet off, the fan stops but the engine isn't any cooler. At least not immediately. If the fan stayed on until the temp dropped, that would be doing what my fan is doing. No?

I think a slow even cool down is best, less thermal strain between the various parts, especially sealing surfaces. I agree with Dan , an oil pre-lube accumulator is the best thing you can do to save wear on your bearings, especially with synthetic oil. Very common on race car motors, we always called it an Accusump, probably a trade name.

90+ degree garage doesn't cool down the motor too much.

just hate to hear the motor and exhaust making all these hot ticking sounds without a little fan relief

The fan seems fine.

Will it make the engine last longer? Probably hard to quantify when there are so many other factors affecting engine life.

It would probably make a greater contribution if you were running standard mineral oil. In that case, it would probably help reduce buildup inside the engine. The synthetics have such a higher operating temperature that they are much less likely to create sludge during the brief, higher temps just after shut down.

Yet, it still may help and it's nice to feel like you're doing something positive to increase engine life.

I am fortunate that I live on a farm on a hill where I approach it with a nice 2.5 mile gentle down grade. Just loafing, as it were, without any need to apply much throttle. During riding time my car is out doors. I cover it for weather but I have moving air all around.

As it is a dry sump engine, at least the oil is out of the engine and cooling its own way instead of sitting in the block and cooking!

I think the cool down fan makes a lot of sense. And not just because I live in soutj Florida and do the same things with the motorcycles I have.

I used to own a Buell, and for those that don't know - it has an air cooled higher output Harley Sportster engine. It had a fan for the rear cylinder that would come on at higher temperatures, and it would continue to run after shutting the bike down until it reached a lower temperature. Always got the attention of bystanders, the fan was pretty loud !

I would do the same thing if I'm ever fortunate enough to get an M3W.
