They may be like me rather shy not wishing to offend anyone rather touchy about rude naughty jokes so maybe reluctant and keep away. But its up to Simon he calls the shots. sherlock

I wouldn't put an annual time limit on membership. Some people will just use the site for info, general reading. I have joined some forum sites in the past simply for info. Ford focus owners being one when We had a Focus.
Unless there are limits to data/storage then leave it. The only change I would make would possibly be an automated message to a member who had not even opened he site for. Couple of years. Perhaps they have even passed on to the car club in the sky.

Well I am not so sure - I think the posts are usually very interesting and in the main well balanced so not sure why you would register and not post - OK some folks are more prolific than others but the topics are usually pretty relevant to us all so thats a mystery to me

I think that there will be a range of reasons why people join and don't post or post a couple and never post again.

It's intimidating making a first post on any Forum, and for some, just searching and browsing will be enough. How many Dealers do this for example?

Some posters just want a quick solution to a problem.

With a low level of input they will never get sucked in. I don't think many who attend the MSCC Committee Meetings use TM. It's a mystery to me if you have a Morgan, why you wouldn't see the benefits of participating in TM. Especially for event planning and organisation.

Interestingly of the top 30 posters, I have met at least 22, some several times.......... grin2

That is a very interesting and important point Dave and I think that fact makes this forum quite a superbly unique forum in the internet world where we don't just sit infront of a computer.

But perhaps this fact is also creates a bit of an intimidating barrier to some who are not in a position to meet up for whatever reason

Perhaps some of our posts as regular contributors do come over a bit strange in that we can converse and poke fun, seem irreverent and not take offence because we know each other socially

I've been knocking about social media since the '80s and you always get a proportion of lurkers, who read but rarely write. I suspect that with this sort of forum you will also get people who join just to see what it is about and don't come back because it wasn't what they expected or they satisfied their curiosity. I'm more used to email lists, having run a few, where people actively quit to save their mailboxes from being filled if they aren't interested.

Does it matter? I don't think so. I doubt if it takes more than a few dozen bytes to store a user registration. If security is a worry you could disable passwords after a while, which would let people rejoin if they wanted to.

For those who stay this is certainly one of the best online groups I have encountered and the only web based forum I have stuck with. I'm very happy to be here.
