See attached from the Australian Dealer, in summary:
- M3W's shortly will be outlawed; last orders now. - No "classic" 4 wheeler sales from 1st Nov. Morgan are offering further test that may lift this ban in the future. - New Areo 8 can be sold.
A heartbreaking and heavy financial blow for the Morgan importers. It makes Australia even more of a nanny state than the US of A.
To a degree I agree that the M3W can not be reasonably treated as a motorcycle but it is not reasonable to treat it as a car either. It should have its own 3 wheeler category such as may exist under EU regs and does exist in Italy.
Given the very small volume of Morgans that are imported into Australia, and the fact that they are a special interest vehicle it would be fair to give them some exemptions similar to those for classic vehicles.
The problem is that we are starting to see what happens when a bureaucratic state starts to develop out of a democratic state.
How long will it be before we see that "everything which is not permitted by law is forbidden"?
That's a bummer, moving permanently to Australia early next year and was hoping to get another 4 wheeler. Now have to think if it is possible to bring my current 4/4 and see if I will be able to use it.
What a crying shame given the past history of Aussie imports of British cars. The time is slowly approaching when we will all have to drive the same "washing machines"
Don' know if it was "broken" down and imported as a "Kit car"? Less engine, less tranny? Could that work? Didn't I hear that at one time the Lotus 7 was imported as a kit? Nanny change that too?
That is very sad to see. Disappointing to think reading the bulletin that you can't orde a Morgan, apart from an Aero, but you still can have the Morgan clothing. At this rate the clothing will be banned on some nanny principle.
