One modification you can consider when using a 45 or similar non 90 degree pipe is to cut the pipe exit so that it aligns with the edge of the wing.
Better to allow a little extra as it should ensure that the gasses exit away from rather than under the car.

Thanks for all the responses.
Having looked at the car it seems there probably isn't sufficient space. The position of the rear support bracket means there is very little space between it and the rear of the wing/wheel arch, certainly not enough to accommodate the bend and the pipe. I suspect the silencer is shorter on the 1.6 4/4, and the bracket further forward. Perhaps it's a quirk of the 2.0 duratec 4/4?
So, unless I alter the bracket position, which I doubt I'll try and do, then I'll probably need to forget the idea.
