Never thought I would see the venerable FS1-E mentioned! I had a purple '76 - RDD662N (can't remember the official colour name) from new. My first road bike. Learned all the balancing / slow riding on BSA Bantams through the long lamented RAC/ACU training scheme.

I still have my passing out badge from completing the RAC/ACU course in '79 and had it presented to me by Mick Grant at an awards do at Dewsbury town hall, I then went on to become an instructor as they were short of bodies at that time.
To Finnish off the story, 1 month after becoming an instructor I took my motorcycle test and turned up at the test centre with the ACU instructors fluorescent bib on.
When the examiner saw the bib he said "I don't know what I'm bothering taking you out for as their test wasn't a patch on the ACU one. So after 5 minutes going round the block he gave me a pass certificate.
Brilliant! After passing the RAC/ACU test I continued as an assistant for several years, but dropped out after I went to sea. Pretty sure I still have the badges somewhere too! Think my FS1-E must have been late '74, sold it in '75 when I went to college.

One like this Graham? Brilliant bits of kit and now quite collectable.
My first and only foray into the world of motorbikes was on a FS-1E back in the mid 70s (although I think it was 49cc so technically a moped). A young lad I worked with had one and convinced me to have a go, I unintentionally wheeled up the road, which was probably quite a feat on a Fizzy. I decided it wasn't for me and have never been on anything powered with two wheels since.

I was a late comer to motorcycling following parental advice, but made up for it later. Even in the early 70's I had a hankering for the quirky and was searching for a Monkey bike when I ended up buying one of these.
The AS1 125cc two stroke twin served me well spanning the glorious summer of 1975 when it was used daily for work trips as far south as Brighton from London. At the time to me it was the mutts nuts with twin carbs, oil injection and five speed gearbox. Even managed an overnight to Bristol and back plus regular journeys to Hull. Remember seeing 82mph with a tailwind on one occasion after a decoke which involved pulling a brick sized lump of carbon out of one exhaust port.
This was followed by a new RD250 before buying my first Moto Guzzi, heralding a career importing spare parts for the marque.
