I've nearly hit raccoon carcasses, and hit squirrel(and nearly a couple of live ones).
I figure I'd have to go around deer, but do I need to go around something as small as a raccoon? I'd rather not try to swerve into another lane like I would for a deer if I don't have to.
My wife has made it clear that she'd rather I hit squirrels with the inner tire than the outer one on her side. Has anyone hit anything big? Got a strategy for me?

I go round racoons, possums, and turkeys in my Massachusetts neighborhood. Haven't had a close encounter with the deer yet and the squirrels and chipmunks are too quick to avoid. My biggest problems are the stupid turkeys and distracted pedestrians, often invisible in the dark. Generally the bigger the critter the more I'll try to avoid it.

Oh, and I had an oak tree hit my Passat one night--it dropped a huge bough on my bonnet. The VW didn't survive the encounter.
My grandparents hit a horse in the 1930s when out on their motorbike, but we're only knocked off it. The horse probably came off worse.

I went over a snail last week. Did the car feel a bit sluggish? No but once the roads get salted it sticks like glue.
