Phil's 1000 mile running thread got me thinking and wondering what targets people have set for themselves.

I am overweight at 81kg so my target set a couple of days ago was 72 at 72 ie to weigh 72kg by my 72nd birthday in August.

Do you have any personal targets?

My target for next year is to clear the rubbish out of the garage and get the Morgan in!
But my main target is to hit my 90s fit, healthy, sense of humour intact and with a reasonably sharp set of knives in the drawer. In order to do this I run about 20 miles per week which helps physically and mentally, read a fair bit,not feel guilty about doing nothing for a while and getting out in the Mog to spread the joy a little. I also volunteer fot the National Trust at Kedleston Hall which gives a focus to the week and keeps the mind active. Also as a regular church attender I have the odds stacked in my favour as it appears that those with an active religious life tend to live longer and with fewer ailments - perhaps God doesn`t want us up there bothering him in person!

Good to have aims!

This year I lost 6kg - and kept it off!

Not easy. I now cycle three times a week, go to the gym 3/4 times a week and walk about 4 miles. And toughest of all only have wine on Fri/Sat.

Oh and watch the calories!!

What of 2017? My first full year of retirement.

1. Strive to be happy

2. Stop feeling guilty about not "working".

3. Enjoy my Mog - with a few more trips.

4. Plan my 70th in 2018 - including a trip to Aus.

5. Actively help others - particularly young people with Mental Health problems.

Having been Target Driven for 46 working years I decided, on retirement, to not keep a diary and stop concerning myself about things I can't control............Like my personal goals which change daily smile

Fantastic list there , we do some of these including cycling which we've done for many years and before that swimming lengths . The wine is a valiant one which we totally agree with but not this time of year . Cannot believe you are anywhere near 70 , no way , more like 58 ish ?

A great list Neil.
I would only add about not feeling guilty that you didn't get something done today, or you must do it today.
There are no targets any more.
The Scarlett model applies: tomorrow is another day (and I can think about doing it then, or not...).

The great thing about retirement is that you don't even have to hear the word target any more and mindfulness is operating at 100% efficiency laugh2.

If it's not a Morgan driving day chose a job that needs doing - magic thumbs .
