I always thought a great joke present would be a scarf like the one in the old Kenny Everett show. On the US general there was a scarf which stuck out to the side. Do a Morgan version and it could be a good paradox for M3W owners !

Interesting thread. In my opinion a quality premium priced product can only retain its position if it retains its quality and hence desirability. What has surprised me having attended various talks ,factory visits etc is the fact that Morgan don't seem to take care of the low hanging fruit in the quality department. Whilst i have not bought new myself, tales of rusting washers is just a buying department issue . Same as the corrosion on the running strip bolts... its not necessary. Don't mention the fuel gauge.. It might be a standing joke in Morgan circles but really how difficult is it to fix? i guess its a bought in item so change supplier. None of these issues help with quality and desirability to the outside world

I hope that the introduction of the new senior management can develope the quality side of the business. Outside expertise and experience could well overcome the long term ethos and habits that have become the norm.
Fresh blood often brings in new ideas, and challenges the "old ways".
It is not rocket science after all. Many small changes that are easy to do will have obvious benefits and start the process.
As above...don't accept rusty washers when fitting! Get suppliers/stock control on board so that assemblers get the right bits. That can encourage them in their efforts rather than discouraging them.
Same with made in bits. Develope attitudes to quality.

Some items only to prevent competition for sales? MSCC car badges for instance.

No rusty washers on mine. In fact some suggestion of galvanised washers. Quality overall is pretty good I have to say.

I dont think that its quite as simple as you suggest. Volumes at Morgan are very low and they will have difficulty getting suppliers. But in any case you are assuming that rust on washers comes from the supplier whereas it could well be to do with the archaic manufacturing process and storage facilities at MMC. And can Morgan change that? Part of their selling proposition is the "old style hand manufacture" so knocking down the old sheds and erecting a proper air conditioned assembly hall could damage sales.

Essentially this is the Harvey Jones debate. properly updating Morgan production would mean major change that would certainly improve quality but could well damage sales.. Its a difficult line to tread.

Maybe buryers just have to accept that they are buying at best a 1950s car and have to accept 1950s quality levels?

Aero chassis cars are 1990s cars and seem to be very well built.

'People' say that "quality" (whatever that is) is better now than even 2005. And yet I have no complaints about my 2005 Roadster which is still looking good.

Once we had achieved dipped wood as standard, and paint applied before final assembly, and stainless bulkheads it was about right.

You pay for modern car uniformity and reliability through massive depreciation.
