Dan, im not sure, I will have to do more investigating. It had sat a couple weeks, since it had no rocker covers on it! I put that set on just to move it around the garage. We have snow here now, so it may be spring before I have more details!

We have snow here now, so it may be spring before I have more details! Kirk, I'll be in the Clare/Farwell area over the holidays. We stay with my brother in Clare, about a half mile from Jays Sporting Goods. I was born and raised in MI. The furthest south we ever lived in MI was Monroe where I started school. In the fifth grade we lived in St. Ignace, that's the furthest north we lived. My dad worked road construction in the '40s through the early/mid '60s. I went to eleven different schools until we settled back done about 13 miles west of Farwell in Lake Station. We had a marina on Crooked lake and I was the mechanic. We sold Johnson outboards/snowmobiles, Mercury outboards, Crest pontoons, Polaris and Arctic Cat snowmobiles, Bridgestone motorcycles, Safety Mate fiberglass boats, the predecessor to Four Wynns boats out of Cadillac. I was quit busy in my teen years. When I was 18 I raced snowmobiles for the MI Ski Doo distributor that was located in Clare. I had one of the very first Ski Doo factory race Blizzards. I also built a few dune buggies and ran at Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes on Lake Michigan. So if we have a good clear day between Christmas and New Years, you'll drive up to show me your M3W, right???? Just kidding. I'll be back in August for my Farwell HS 50th Class Reunion, maybe then. Noises are very hard to track down sometimes. Good luck with finding yours. Have a great week. Stay warm!

Well, I am working the week between Christmas and New Year's, but if you want to come down towards the city I would definitely make arrangements to be home to at least show you the Morgan! But yes during the summer would probably be a lot more fun!

Bad news, the squealing goes away when the clutch is pressed in.... That is odd, perhaps too much crank end play for some reason? Could be a thrust bearing I suppose, causing a cam pulley to rub? Are you sure noise is from the cam drive area? If you're thinking that the pressure of the pedal against the clutch pressure plate is moving the crank, it "should" have no effect on the noise other than possible allowing for a very slight rpm difference without the trans turning. The hub adapter for the flywheel/clutch is independent and supported by it's own bearing. Also the Centa is not longitudinally connected in the middle. So no forward/back motion of the crank can take place with the press/release of the clutch. Kirk, I would get a long screwdriver and use it as a stethoscope while it's running or pick up a cheapie from a parts store or Harbor Freight. If you place the handle end on your and "ground" it out hard in your ear, you can pick up a lot of noises in lieu of actually having a stethoscope. I have a cheap stethoscope and it works good, but the ear pieces are not comfortable for a long period of time. Does it make the noise while driving? Or just at idle sitting still? Excellent points - I wasn't sure where the clutch thrust force was taken-up. Get the stethoscope or long screwdriver out and see if you can narrow it down. Just be extremely careful around moving parts, lest you get a screwdriver handle embedded in your ear :-)

Hi Kirk. How many miles have you managed to do? I've done at least 50 and now in the same position as you. Salt stops play. I can't see myself getting many miles on the car before the first service.
I assume you have been hitting the rev limiter quite easily like myself? I spoke to my dealer last weekend, who said the 3500 rpm limiter is set at 200 hours driving time and not on mileage.

I don't think I knew that the M3W had a "break in" rev limiter. 200 hours is a lot of saddle time. That's 12k miles at 60 mph just for break in. WOW! No matter how fast you're driving, that seems quite excessive to me.

According to the S & S X-Wedge manual (admittedly longer stroke 117 CI engine) the first two hours running sets rev limit to 4250rpm and from then on to twenty hours 5125rpm. After that it's max 5800rpm.
