Yes...we bought a Sportage for  as a main car that also had space for the twin granddaughters and all their necessary gear! A nice car. At one stage we had 3, one being a lease car for as a work car. The Morgan was car 3. retired so down to 2 now. A third car would be a plus for me as a runabout. The Morgan does that now. I would consider a cheap runabout for the winter but keep the Morgan on the road....just reduce its use. Trouble is I would end up too choosey or drift towards a "semi classic" . A cheap electric would be fine but none cheap enough. We are planning to move house next year so a van could be handy!

Living on the countryside asks for more cars than city life.
We have a Landrover for field use, for hunting and the dogs, a estate car for the lady to guarantee autonomy and shopping capacity, a business car for my job, an old Golf for the kids as public transport is limited in the evening and I'm not willing to collect them after midnight from parties; a Moggy for the fun and a M3W to proove that the 4/4 makes more sense than a 3wheeler. On top of that package daughter nr. 2 recently got a decent company car.
When the whole croud and their friends spend a weekend with us we need to hand out parking tickets....

Hannes you need a fleet manager! But the nest will one day be empty and the driveway not quite so crowded so enjoy these times for the good times that they are.

Hannes you need a fleet manager! But the nest will one day be empty and the driveway not quite so crowded so enjoy these times for the good times that they are. More like his own multi storey car park.

While I'm still working, I will always have a modern car. When it's a cold and dark November morning, chucking down with rain, and I have to be 100 miles away for an 08:30 meeting, the Morgan is always going to stay tucked up in the garage.
But when I'm retired, and able to choose when I travel, then I'm fully intending to just keep the Morgan as my main car. Its not as easy to make it work as you might think. When I stopped work my wife had a saloon car and I had the Lotus and a bike, using the bike as everyday transport. I should add that the bike has panniers and a top box so at least as much luggage capacity as a trad and probably more. Nevertheless, i found myself borrowing SWMBOs saloon car more and more, particularly in the winter weather. Either I needed 4 seats or to carry soimething long for diy, or something dirty from the boat or something heavy. Or more often I had to drive boring motorway miles when either bike or two seater sports cars are a drag not a pleasure. There is a lot to be said for a boring reliable econonbox.

Its not as easy to make it work as you might think.
We should be ok, has no intention of getting rid of her Fiat 500, and we have a Defender 90 that's a keeper. For nipping about on short trips there's also the electric bikes.

There is a lot to be said for a boring reliable econonbox.
Nor need they be boring either, the Focus and Fiesta ST, Golf R or Clubsport or Civic type R plus a few others, are hugely entertaining but still reliable, and as a bonus they are all real Q cars too, blending into the general road scene.

Porsche under investigation over emissions testing

Germany’s regulators are investigating whether software designed to detect emissions testing was in use in with Porsche sports cars, a marque belonging to the Volkswagen Group.
Germany’s Motor Transport Authority KBA announced they were investigating whether software designed to measure the angle of the car’s steering wheel was in use in Porsche, which at that time was led by current Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Mueller.
The suspicion casts more negative light on Volkswagen, still recovering in the wake of the revelations 15 months ago that it had used emissions-cheating devices in diesel cars of several of its brands to switch on emissions-scrubbing technologies during testing. As a result, the test emissions appeared much lower than those in real-world driving.
The KBA is now investigating whether Porsche also used software which might have been able to detect testing conditions in order to turn on emissions-reducing technology.
The KBA is already conducting a similar investigation into VW's Audi brand, which supplies diesel engines to Porsche.
A Porsche spokesman said steering wheel movements were not used to detect whether a car was undergoing an emissions test.
“This is not done with any Porsche models,” the spokesman said, adding Porsche was fully cooperating with the KBA.
VW was not immediately available to comment.
VW admitted in September 2015 to using illegal “defeat device” software in the US to disguise the true level of toxic emissions from diesel engines, sparking the biggest business crisis in its history.
It has agreed a multi-billion dollar settlement with US authorities and is spending billions more to refit vehicles and speed up the development of electric cars.

Ha! For every given rule, there are several ways to bypass it. I'd be very surprised if it were anything else. It's less to do with dishonesty, more to do with making money..
