Whoops yes blush , but my point remains wink

Regarding CCA, its a guide to a new battery's ability to start a particular car, but will likely only be achievable on the first few starts. In fairness LiOn batteries will hold this parameter longer being particularly good at supporting high charge and discharge currents. This is why they can be offered with surprisingly low amp hour capacities.

You have to ask yourself though if its worth the 400% price hike given their likely premature demise. Note also that currently many hybrid cars using LiOn battery banks still retain a 12 volt lead/acid battery for starting and accessories.

So I have been following this thread with interest. I was wondering how long Thumper's battery would keep going (original fit 2012) and needless to say, with my son driving the car yesterday, we saw it's demise.
Following the art of good British compromise, I have opted for one of these:

400A CCA as compared with 300A for the old Banner battery. It will still work with my Ctek battery conditioner and may only need a modest replacement of the battery studs, as it is a bit taller.
I'll post how it goes.

I have AGM batteries in all my motorcycles. I swear by them.

That the one I fitted. I did find although it is the "same" footprint as the Banner it was actually about 3mm wider at its base and did not fit in the M3W tray so I had to make an adaptor to sit it in.

The Westco battery is indeed 2-3mm wider than the M3W tray. Being lazy I shaved a bit off the battery sides at the bottom to make a snug fit. New side studs were made, and then away we go. Certainly worked effectively directly from placement and will probably be better when it is fully charged. The terminal arrangements are nice and neat and there is a bit of extra space behind the battery.

Duracell AGM #DURAGM 30-LA-US 400CCA

Slightly shorter in length but slightly wider in width. Had to make small bends in the tray. Tie down posts were good. 400 CCA vs the Banner 300CCA the car came with. Big difference!

Are you still happy with the JMT battery Calum?
I've just bought one as my Banner has just about given up the ghost...

Austin, at the risk of tempting fate, the battery has just worked. No issues whatsoever.

Morgan Cars Mid-Atlantic recommends Interstate FAYIX30L. They sent me a new base and longer tie down rods, but the existing ones were fine. The original battery had already been replaced, so perhaps what was sent would be appropriate for the original. That battery was a straight swap
However, The battery still drains. Someone suggested a new rectifier, saying that the Morgan unit was inferior to a Harley. I went to a Harley dealer and he wasn't sure which was the right one. Can someone help me on this?

The HD Rectifier is p/n 74540-01, the ring terminal which connects to the B post needs replacing with a larger ring terminal, apart from that it plugs straight in.

If your charging voltage shows around 14.4v then you existing rectifier is OK.
