The M42 is usually horrible around the A45 Junction (6). So is the A45 around the same junction...
When I occasionally used to run up to Erskine or Faslane I would leave Cheltenham around 03:00. That would miss the delays around Birmingham/Manchester. Quick snooze north of the border and hopefully the traffic heading into Glasgow would have eased a bit. That was before the M74 extended south of the city towards the airport where it joins with the M8. Used to run the M8 through the city...
Too much dependency on cars/roads? I could take the train to work, cost me more than double in travel fees and over an hour piddling about (plus getting wet on rainy days)... I'll drive the 20 minutes thanks...

I've had an absolute nightmare week on my commute to Luton. So much so that I couldnt take it anymore and worked from home today!

Last night was over two hours: Luton to Northampton

But even travelling at night throws up problems.....I had a 30 mile detour off the M5 earlier this year.....it was completely closed during the wee small hours of the night!

Travelling by train may work, although again I have sat for hours on trains that have been delayed....or cancelled.....sometimes due to track or train issues but also due to external factors such as 'people or leaves on the track'.

Whichever way you look at it, travelling in some parts of the UK is fraught with issues on a regular basis. So much so that it sometimes puts me off travelling altogether. Thank goodness I no longer have to travel to earn a living!

I might just do that.....people accepting the 'status quo' does nothing to resolve the issue.....some things are out of/beyond control and if nothing is done the situation will only get worse.

The 'tail is wagging the dog' and the dog is suffering.....

We need to catch up with Eire and establish a good rail network that is generally on time and then maybe people would relinquish a few cars and alleviate the congestion.

And no charges, now!

Have spent many hours in the back of that unit as guard-always beautiful scenery between Exmouth and Paignton.

We could do with an overhaul of all our infrastructure, we can't even manage a decent mobile phone network. Apparently the service in places like Romania, Albania, Peru, and Panama is better than the UK.

Broadband connectivity, water, power generation and distribution, provision for cycling, the list of stuff which needs sorting out is embarrassingly long these days.

I love the UK to bits and would never contemplate leaving, but it has to be said we are sliding backwards fast at the moment.

I drove from Dublin down to my Co Wexford home last night - left about 6.30pm -- plenty of(moving) traffic for 15 minutes and then I think I passed about 10 cars for the following 50 or so miles!!!

Come over to the Emerald Isle -- mostly completely uncongested, speak better English, drink good stout and whiskey AND remain european!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Dublin and could happily live there.......except for the weather.

If I move from Paris it's going to be to go somewhere warmer.
