Like Cheshire-David, my memories of the 2009 Centenary weekend have been a factor in my decision. So I plan to be at Silverstone that weekend.

I doubt I'll go either. Even though it's on the doorstep. I'd only aim for one day and that will be weather dependant on the day.
On BH Monday I suspect there will be the usual Wheels in Winslow event - I intend to be there. Good little show, all for mainly local charities plus a few local specialist suppliers - cheese, honey &c. Hope to win a couple more bottles of red on various tombolas

As for the 2009 event, I went to the racecourse on Sunday, thanks to RobMog88 who had a spare ticket (his couldn't go in the end). I also went to the Friday VSCC and did the preceding Prescott weekend (marshal on Saturday and ended up marshalling again on Sunday as one of our guys in orange didn't make it...).

Already booked accomodation outside of the official arrangements so will be there .

A strange comment.

I suspect that it's reference to the high charges for the event.

The problem when you involve 'professional' marketeers and events organisers, they will look at the cost of new Morgans and the demographics and pitch a price to cover their costs and make a profit.

Morgan make cars, not organise events although that's what they did in 1984 for the 75th anniversary. I believe that Peter Morgan hired Mark Aston to help organise MOG84 and what a brilliantly run and friendly event that was and without silly high prices.

Rather that use the phrase 'bite the hand' I'd suggest that Morgan need to remember who the owners and the club are and what they bring to the party. Every time someone in the street sees a Morgan, new, recent or a beautifully maintained old model from the 1950s or 1960s, it helps create the desire to aspire to own one. To most people, they all look the same regardless of age.

Demographics and market segmentation really don't work well for Morgan ownership where for many a Morgan was bought many years ago.

I just think it's really sad that Morgan have given up the excellent Thrill on the Hill 'blue riband' event for this..

Got to agree Steve, I did enjoy the Thrill on the Hill events, I had the impression that the factory craft folk enjoyed them too.
I will go to the this event it will be the first "MOG" for me.

Farming out organisation to outside companies reminds me of what has happened since Piaggio took over the Moto Guzzi factory.

Historically, from 1978 to 1987, the Moto Guzzi rally in Mandello was organised by Alis's father, Duilio Agostini, and the local motorcycle club. From the early '90s until 2002 the rally was organised directly by Moto Guzzi. We are talking about events that involved from 3,000 to 10,000 people.

For a few years after Piaggio took over they farmed the organisation out to event organisers, the cost of stands put them out of the reach of most people. The event turned from a get together of Moto Guzzi enthusiasts to become a biker beerfest as the event organisers totally misunderstood, as did Piaggio, the demographic of Moto Guzzi enthusiasts.

The last two rallys have returned to the original concept with organisation by the local clubs and the council due to the lack of communication from Piaggio. Even the 95th Anniversary rally was organised in this way after we pushed the mayor to declare a date in the absence of any response from Piaggio.

Both these events have been fantastic and Piaggio piggybacked an open-doors event at the factory on top of the organisation by the clubs and the council. This event inside the factory was again organised by an event organiser and was complete with a beer stand, souvenir bags, subscription fees, etc.

Guess who then promulgated press releases that stated 10,000 people came to Mandello for the open-doors event (not for the rally itself) without acknowledging any of the work and effort put in by others to organise and publicise the rally?
