With complements of the season. Does anyone happen to know which Ford clutch cable is used on an early 4 speed CVH engined 4/4, please ? Vehicle or part number would be very helpful. Cheers, John.

I think they came from the XR2 or XR3, John. I have a spare, and there's a barcode sticker on it with the number 5 016593 067011, but I'm not 100% certain it's the part number.

I believe the same as the later X-flow? Certainly the cable for my '93 1.8 Zetec and 5 speed MT75 is the same cable as my old '76 X-flow and 4 speed box.

John Worrall used to stock them - Heart of England Morgans. I don't think it is a Ford item though.
JTL bought my spare off me when I sold my 5 speed CVH engined car so I don't have a reference item.

Um, I am still researching, but it seems that it is a Capri cable. I'll let you all know the result. Cheers.

A Capri cable ought to be able to be made to work, but it's not an exact match, in my experience...
I had a clutch cable go on mine (5-speed CVH) a handful of years ago. I wasn't too far from home, but far enough and with enough traffic lights between me and my destination that I didn't want to crash the box all the way. I noisily found second, and pottered - hazard lights on and making only right turns - as far as the car park of an out of town superstore from where I phoned home for a rescue.
I took the two ends of the cable to a parts supplier, explained what it was, and he directed me to back-street store that specialised in obsolete Ford inventory, who supplied a Capri cable that looked about right. The relative lengths of inner and outer cable are not quite the same as on the original - I had to manufacture a short (approx 1") extender from some threaded tube and appropriately sized nuts & washers in order to get it to fit as a roadside repair; the inner was subsequently shortened by a local shop to enable me to remove my bodge, but it worked well enough to get me home. I was expecting to have to trailer the car home and wait for a part to be shipped from Uncle Melvyn, so was surprised and relieved that I was able to source a cable locally. I've since acquired an additional replacement just in case.
