A Morgan is most definitely for driving. It's why I bought mine as I no longer wanted the collection of garage queens I used to own.
I'm turning that way Neil, almost purposely buying less than perfect now so that I'm not too precious, far more enjoyable

In the end it is a decision of cost of enjoyment. Morgan depreciation is relatively low so, apart from adding upgrades, toys etc, then the day to day on the road costs are similar to any car. What calue do you put on the enjoyment? If you simply enjoy looking at the car then that is a petsonal choice so low mileage is the result. I am unlikely to own a car that could be classed as for investment. I don't know if I would appreciate owning such a car. I would have to drive it.

The GTN is an unknown quantity at the moment regarding resale. When I got it it was on 9,700 as an 11 year old car. First year of ownership added 3,000 to it which for me is feeble but have been adding lots to the Tesla and put a bit on the S5. I don't have any plans to sell it right now but imagine it's not travelling South in value. You must have done more miles than anyone in Aeros, Shooter. Sounds like you have the S5 now and are getting some miles on the clock. Any chance of some photos some time? I remember the mock ups you did, but cannot recall any 'in the flesh'. Apologies if already posted and I missed them. Also interested in your thoughts on the S5 after the S4 and GTN.

I'm turning that way Neil, almost purposely buying less than perfect now so that I'm not too precious, far more enjoyable It's difficult to do this though. I'm like many on here, in that I like my car to be sparkling clean (not concourse) and it would upset me to think of a muddy car in the garage. By the same token, I'd be sort of looking after these cars for the next owner - which is crazy. I bitterly regret not driving some of my cars more - such a waste. A Morgan hits a good balance - unique, fun, beautiful, but not so valuable that you dare not drive the thing.

Its a difficult and irritating problem. Like many on here, I am comfortable in my retirement and if I was to write off the toy car tomorrow with no insurance to cover, it wouldnt change my life in any way. But having worked hard and saved hard all my life to get into this position, I find it impossible to be casual about the depreciation of the car due to mileage. So I end up wondering if I can "afford" the 2000 miles that would be involved in taking the car to le Mans or the 3000 going to Maranello.
Yes, I know that this is stupid and I am being stupid. But being "careful" in the yorkshire sense of that word is just as much an addiction as I found smoking to be.

Use it and get the pleasure from using it.
It is not a Ming vase!
It's a car, cars such as these were made to give something to the user when driven.
If you want to ogle at Automotive artwork then go to a museum and sell your car.
If you want to make money and have a thrill doing it then rob a bank!

Howard.
As a 66 year old Yorkshireman still living in Yorkshire I understand and sympathise with your situation!!
The reason I sold my Porsche 356 was because I was so worried about damaging the car that I hardly used it and found I had lost all enjoyment in driving it..luckily values had shot up and I was determined never to be in that situation again...too worried about keeping the car pristine.
So I had £50,000 in the "car fund"..what to buy ?..the 4/4 did it for me..ordered a new one and in 2 years I have enjoyed doing all the mods to get it to how I want it. So I drive it like a stabbed rat..not afraid of road salt or stone chips,it lives outside and I love it.
Didn't like the ARP4 or the Aero series5..wouldn't swop the 4/4 for either + as a Yorkshire man I like the mpg/low tax band and easy maintenance of the 4/4 !!!
So I still have £15000 left to buy another toy...fancy a 1920s/30s Ford/Mg style .

Using it without insurance is the stupidity.. To get back on topic, it really matters not how many miles you actually do providing you enjoy doing it. If you're the sort that whittles about not being able to use it 'because..' etc then as Kev says, it ain't the car for you. It all boils down to why you own it in the first place, I guess. I'm not a collector.
