I fitted a pair of DCNF webers to my CVH engined 4/4 a few days ago and contrary to reports of these not being suitable for an in-line configuration they are working rather well. Still need rolling road set up really but particularly low end torque seems better so overtaking scared in 4th and 5th seems better but the sound!!! evil Now the car sounds like it looks. So far I'm rather pleased with it but still have a couple of issues to address e.g. an oil pressure switch for safety cut out and a change of fuel pump set up.

These are a popular conversion for the Fiesta guys as they are better for clearance. Personally I can't see why these would be less suitable.. . . . hhmm?

BTW... how did you choose to deal with your ingnition timing.

I'm assuming you blanked off the vacuum advance and adjusted for best running.

No. there's a vacuum port just above one of the butterflies, I've used this to control the emission valve and the vacuum advance. I had used this initially for the petrol tank vent so I don't have a home for that at the moment. Measuring with the strobe light it appears to be working correctly but a rolling road would be a better place to check this.
The beauty of these carbs is there's no need for taking a munch out of the wing.

Next weekend I will be fitting a set of 45dcoe's with a closed airbox assembly. I think I have worked out a way of fitting all that without having to touch the bonnet. But I will need to modify the inner weelarch to get clearance for the front cylinder.

Got any pics of your set-up?

The connections I made were rubbish! When I checked again it was retarding rather than advancing. But - on these carbs there are balance ports and some time ago when I first had a go at fitting them I made up a "manifold" in hard plastic pipe with push connectors so that three of these ports are connected to the vacuum advance = result, much better, as long as you've renewed the o ring seals for these ports. The take off above the butterfly now just serves the emission valve and all seems well again.

You guys sound like you know your stuff re carbs etc, looking for advice.
I have replaced the stock filter on my '83 CVH (XR3 n/a) with a nice Pipercross. Sounds good and much improved throttle response, but the car runs out of breath past 80 in top, and struggles to gain further speed. Can I cure this with adjustment or is it a gearing problem?

Also, what should I do with the the small air pipe that used to pass from a small valve in the filter box to the base of the carb, I've tried closing this off, leaving it open and is currently sitting with the original valve fitted.

your advice will be gratefully received

Many thanks.

Did you do the installation yourself?

Moving to 185/55/15 tyres gives more pull with the power you have, esentially getting more effective Torque to the road. Alternatively you need more power to increase top speed.
