Learned on a Wolseley 1500. Passed in an HB Viva.
Oh and it probably won't surprise anybody to learn that I've kept a note book of every car I've driven since then.

On the bike front I passed my test on an RD125 twin, then went on to a Kawasaki KH 250 triple, Yamaha RD 350 LC, Ducati 600 Pantah, Yamaha DT175 (rat bike alongside the duke - until some little scrote nicked it), Suzuki TS250.

Escort Mk1... driving school car. I had previpusly driven a Willys Jeep and Landrover though. The jeep when 12/13 on fishing trips onto the beach at Pembrey and in the adjacent forest shooting rabbits.

By the time I was 8 I could drive and back trailers with a Ransome Syms & Jefferies caterpillar tractor that was on my Dad's market garden. I applied for my driving test on my 17th birthday but in those days (1980) there was a 5 month waiting list.
The motor school car was a pale blue Escort 1.1 Popular that couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding but my Dad had recently bought a Mk2 Escort 1.6 Ghia so that was like chalk and cheese driving that for practice at the weekend and then lessons in the week in the slugmobile.
I passed first time with the chief examiner who was a funny little man who wore what looked like a flashing Mac and his trilby but he was so short he could hardly see over the dash!
My first car was a Mk1 Escort 1300XL in Sunset Red with black upholstery. I loved that car and I always thought there similar parallels in the handling of that to the 4/4.

1962 never had a single lesson took first test in a 1959 Vauxhall Cresta failed for not stopping a zebra crossing, person on the other side of the road, my cousin told me not to stop for them Second test ancient Bedford DormobiIe I borrowed, rotten as a pear. Examiner got in and I tied the sliding door shut with a bit of rope He said to me "If that door falls off you've failed" Luckily it didn't Funny to think I went on to become a Driving Examiner Most dagerous job I ever had Passed bike test first time on a Mobelette 49cc, straight out and bought a proper bike Ariel Red Hunter.

Second time lucky, in Rhyl in the height of summer in a blue Rover 100.
Walking out of the waiting room into the car park with the much feared examiner, we get joined by this bloke, who introduces himself as Mr so and so, Driving Test Assessment manager, scribbles some thing on his clipboard hand clambers in the back of the car.
'Pretend I'm not here he says' As if
Test gets underway and we do all the usual manoeuvres, parallel park, reversing round the corner except one, the emergency stop.
We are just turning into the short road leading to the test centre, when the tester remembers the emergency stop ' When I tap the dashboard, I want you to react as if a child walked into the road' Dashboard tapped and brakes planted.
The next thing I know is that a top set of dentures comes flying over my left shoulder and lands in my lap. The voice in the back says 'i wasn't expecting that' Quick as a flash I say, 'neither was I'
The examiner then tells me to park up, which I do and to give her and the bloke five minutes. I hand the bloke back his teeth, get out, have a ciggy to calm my nerves and get beckoned back to the car, where upon an outstretched arm gives me my pass slip. No questions on the Highway Code, nothing!

1977, the first year you had to pass a driving test, in a Renault 12 (driving school car). My parents had 2 NSU Prinz4 and the first car I bought was a Fiat 127. Now the Morgan is the 22nd. In Belgium you can drive motorbikes with the same license when it dates before 1989.
