Hi Everyone - first time posting so please bear with me.
I've had my M3W for almost 7 months - love it. The guys at Krazy Horse look after it for me as I have zero mechanical skills. That said, I'd like to undertake a solo trip through France down to North East Spain can you give me your thoughts as to what essential spares I should take, I'm having a luggage rack fitted and will take a spare front wheel/tyre. What else would you recommend?
Thanks. Michael.

Welcome to TM!

I would take an inner tube ( for the fronts) and a Can of tyre inflator for the Rear!

Plus a basic tool kit. Most of the M3W bits can be fixed with a good Hex set!

Welcome to TM

I agree with Neil that inner tubes for the front wheels are a good idea but also (if you can carry it) a spare front tyre could also get you out of trouble.
In the 4 years of owning my M3W I have had 4 punctures in the same (offside) front wheel and in 3 of these the tyre was also damaged beyond safe use.
The front wheels do not have rim tape over the spoke nipples and despite MWS (the wheel supplier) stating it is not necessary, I now have a couple of layers of Gaffer Tape over them and have not had the problem with that particular wheel for the last 5000 miles.
Good luck with your machine and we are relatively close so perhaps we could meet up some time.

Best regards
Keith

Thanks everyone - I'm making a list.

Yes, Keith, I've had a similar problem with the inner rims and spoke nipples - Krazy Horse sorted this with the same simple fix you've undertaken, likewise I've had no further issues.

Thanks again.

Michael.

I got a spare cambelt and an inner tube for frontwheels on board. Proper toolset including some imperial L-keys for the motor. Some duct tape, some wire and a credit card.
Because of the fuel gauge I have a small (2liter) petrol canister on board as well.
Some countries require to have spare bulbs available for the headlights.

Duct tape , WD40 + a hammer -

If it moves and shouldn`t = Duct tape

If it doesn`t move and should = WD40

If it can`t be fixed with a hammer it`s an electrical fault.

Welcome to TM, Michael! I'm from 'Ertfordshire too, albeit a bit further south, near Stortford. Your planned trip down through France sounds great, remember to take a camera so you'll be able to post pictures for us all. thumbs

Michael ,

As well as a few hand tools, and key spares (as others have posted) almost the most important thing is attitude.

Do be sure to take a mobile phone and continental breakdown insurance, just for the piece of mind it brings

If you go with a sense of adventure , keep your plans (e.g. overnight hotels, etc) as flexible as possible, and just treat the road trip as much a part of the holiday as the destination , then you are sure to enjoy every minute of it.

The mini-issues that might crop up on the way will make great memories to share with friends and family (well those that understand at least) and the good part will etch on your memory for ever.
