Mk2 Ford Fiesta for me. I took two attempts, the first time I failed because I rolled backwards into the kerb when doing a 3-point turn. A bit harsh, I thought.

I didn't take my test until 1983, at the age of 24. For the previous 8 years I used motorcycles as my only form of transport.

Fathers Simca 1501 ...had 5 driving lessons and dad let me drive him around to get some experience.

Then got a summer job at Hattons of St Helens [BL Dealer] first job was to take a MGB GT V8 to Southport ...that summer I drove Mini's , Allegro's, Princess's, Stag, MGB, Marina's, Toledo's, Dolimites ...like the OP I then disappeared to Southampton as a Engineering Cadet in The Merchant Navy to discover beer, women and a love of motorised vehicles.

Passed 1st time in an Austin 1100.
My first car was a Mini van which had a factory option rear seat, followed by 2 Ford Escorts and then the Morgan 4/4 which I still have today and was used for my daily commute for 15 years, until a rebuilt beckoned.

I passed my test at the second attempt in a driving school Ford Anglia in 1968 .
The lessons were £1 each I was in the Army and took a lesson each weekend leave at times there was a long gap between lessons .Within weeks of passing I was put on a Driving Cadre and swiftly removed when I produced my full driving licence .
The first time I was sent out on a driving detail I was to take an officer to Edinburgh Train Station .
I did my first parade service ,oil /tyres/window wash etc ,and set off . I forgot to do up the bonnet clips and once underway and picking up speed the bonnet blew up smashing one side of the split windscreen .I don't know who got the biggest shock ,I never forgot to check the bonnet after that .

Passed 3rd time in 1996 at Renfrew in my Dad's Hillman Husky. First time the examiner smelled of whisky, I suppose I should have said something but I was young. Second time I can't really remember.

1972 Austin Maxi in lime flower green. Examiner was probably impressed by the double decluching from 3rd to 2nd. He was kind for the 3 point turn and picked an enormous road.

I did my driving tests an old 350ccm BMW bike with side car and a 15 year old green Steyr truck with non synchronized gear box.
Grown up on a farm I started driving cars at the age of 10 and tractors some years earlier. Times were much different then.
