I bought an Ipow non-slip dash mat (£8) from Amazon - it holds and positions my iphone7+ perfectly, and adjusts to hold other phones. It fits well between the gearstick and the hand-brake, resting on the tunnel, and doesn't move.
I use the free 'Waze App' for Navigation, which works really well with the Alpine radio. The iPhone plugs into the Alpine radio via USB, which keeps the iPhone charged and makes use of the car's speakers to give audible turn-by-turn directions etc. as well as to play your music.
It's an inexpensive option that works well, requires no fixing and stores easily in the glovebox when not in use.
I also bought the remote control (£24) for the Alpine radio from Amazon - it really helps changing station, volume, input source etc. without having to fiddle with buttons under the dash while driving.
