When I took the bike test it was just before you had to do the figure of 8 stuff before going on the road. The examiner followed in a car giving instruction by an earpiece they gave me.

When I took my motorcycle test the 2 part test had just been introduced. To practice all the figure of 8 malarkey, I laid out welly boots for cones in the yard at home. At the time we had a border collie who had an irrational hatred of two wheelers, be it bicycles or motorbikes. So, all the time I was practicing I was being regularly attacked by an enraged dog, who would dart in and bite the front wheel or my boot & generally try to have me off. When it came to the test it was a piece of cake in comparison.

Datsun Cherry 🍒, 1st time and eight lessons.
One of the most uncomfortable cars I've ever driven.

I drove a Datsun Cerry before I purchased my first own car. My parents had ordered one from the local dealer but had no test drive before. The car was useless for farm transport of stuff or workers, so it ended up with me in my first year with driving license. 45 bhp, front wheel drive, a radio, reclining seats and actually brand new. It was the greatest thing on earth. I think the family kept it for 5 years, than corrosion had done the job...
(In the meantime I had wasted good money on a Triumph Spitfire.)

My problem with the Cherry was that the seat didn't go back anywhere near far enough. The Morris Traveller I used was much better and would drift round corners at 30mph.

Not only that, but it seems we both had a EK. My motorbike licence, consisted of me asking the policeman to add a bike licence. He asked if we had a farm bike and then added it.

I took my lessons in an old Fiat Uno, a Ford Ka and a Fiat Duna and did the test on a newer Fiat Uno, an EFI model.

Triumph Herald whilst at boarding school in Dumfries. A current F1 team owner passed his 3 days earlier.
2 years down the line I had to do a driving test to enable me to drive a company car. This was to be carried out in my own car. The examiner was rather horrified when I turned up in my series 2 Morgan 4/4. I passed though - despite him saying it felt very fast sitting so low to the ground.

An Opel Ascona 1.9SR... the twin-carb, light bodywork with twin spotlights go-faster version.
