Little story on how to pass your driving test.
Its 1970. My wife to be is 19 years old. Her car is a hand painted sit up and beg Ford Popular maintained by her Dad.
As usual for the fashion period she was wearing a fitted mini dress with boots.
Just before test her Dad (watched by daughter) increased the slow running throttle screw (thumb and finger -easy to turn) to give a few more revs to reduce chances of stalling during test.
Early in test:
Examiner said: "I think you are going too fast when you slow down to go round a tight corner. I think its because your engine is running too fast"
Wife to be: "Can I pull over for a minute and adjust it"
Examiner: "OK?????"
Wife to be pulls over with engine running and in Neutral, lifts up the appropriate engine cover (just like a Morgan), "leans over" and turns down throttle screw until Examiner gives her thumbs up on engine revs. She secures cover and continues her test.
After test the examiner told her she had passed with flying colours
He then came over to me and said words to the effect " It was a done deal for a pass after she adjusted the engine. Been an examiner for 20 years- never seen anything like it!"
I "assume" he was referring to a dolly bird adjusting the engine!
True Story I swear.
