Wilhelm,
That is good news if your dealer can resolve it in that way. I hope it all works out

Best wishes,

Wilhelm,
With the flat glass the Windscreen isn't too expensive if it isn't electrically heated. In Switzerland definitely less than the 1200£ mentioned for GB. I am on my fourth. Two cracked because of the vibrations on bad roads and two were scratched from the wipers (another common problem). If you should have to pay for the screen by yourself, ask Rolf, the chairman of the Swiss club. He has a good source. Creative choice of words is sometimes useful when talking to the insurance :-)

I hope to meet you personally on May 2 - or probably earlier on the Tour de Romandie (I'm not sure that I can make it to the latter)??

Greetings

Frank (near Baden AG)

Frank,
I agree but that proviso- that it is NOT a heated screen- is a very important one. If ( like mine) you car has one, then the price escalates very quickly!

Hi All,
I don't know the regulation in Switzerland, but in Europe all these parts have to be CE marked. It could be very important in case of crash. So doing as by past, cutting a bit of glass couldn't be a good idea.

Yes,Daniel, it's the same in Switzerland. Front screens have to be laminated automotive glass, even on my old Threewheeler. The favourite pastime of the Swiss geovernement is to adopt any regulation from everywhere if it makes life more costly and complicated.

@GLLHG,
In the days gone by a flat heated screen had about the same price as an unheated but curved screen for something like a Ford Escort. Some Swiss Morganeers took advantage of this because the insurers had no reason to get suspicious when they only looked at the cost...

Hello,
the windscreen is of the heated type.
I receeived news by the local dealer that the replacement unit is on the way to Switzerland already. Looks like Malvern did this on guarantee. I will probably have to pay the shipment so.

@Bodger:
Looking forward to meet you at the MCS Brunch latest. I hope that until then the windscreen issue is sorted out.

Hi Wilhelm, great to hear. sounds like your dealer had a better "persuasive sell" then mine. Is it just the glass or the entire frame which is replaced? All the best;

All recent trads have heated windscreens - this is not an option. There are no heater vents to the screen and there has to be some way to demist the windscreen - by law - so it is heated.

The screens are made in Newcastle by the way!

Hello,
finally my broken windscreen got replaced today. laugh

The crack in the glass was due to a manufacturing error: the frame had been pressed too much on the top left corner. The mechanic demonstrated it to me: he put a ruler across the corner of the old frame and I could clearly see the gap between frame and ruler exactly where the crack in the glass started! doh Small cause, big mess! According to the mechanic they have already a third Swiss customer facing the same problem. frown

Well, hopefully this matter is settled now once and for all.

Tomorrow I am heading south to join the "Tour de Suisse Romandie" by the Swiss Morgan Club drive Yaba-Daba-Du
