pondering the next toy car change and a front runner ifs the rover engined old plus 8. Reason being, its technology that I understand and can tinker with. Non canbus, non sensor.

But is it also crude? I'm past the age of roughing it and dont need to compromise. I need something thats comfortable, that I could consider for a continental trip with SWMBO. That maybe I could again do an occasional track day / hill climb in but which also would carry luggage and not leak all over me when it rains.

So? Would it fit?

The Rover engined Plus 8 is great for long distance trips as that V8 burbles along effortless all day long. I'm 6 foot and find it very comfortable although there is a knack, like all Mogs, to getting in and out. The only possible downsides are fuel consumption and the footwell can get hot, especially in hot climates.
There'll always be some compromise with a trad Morgan, no boot, not the most rainproof etc. so if you want comfort a modern tin top would be better suited.

I doubt you need any more than courage, Howard..! Eight years on a Morgan specific forum and almost 2,200 posts, I'm sure you know a lot more than the average punter about the foibles of Morgans..!!

For what it's worth, my advice would be this: if you think you'd like it, then do it because tomorrow may be too late. No amount of procrastination will substitute for the hands on approach..

I have a gentlemans wager with mutual friends that you won't. Prove me wrong & I'll stand you a pint..

Sounds like a 3.7 Roadster is your way to go!!

You can't beat that V8 sound. In Italy we have all sorts of problems relating to the use of older vehicles otherwise I would have a Plus 8 myself.

Mind you I would still be fidling with it to make it how I want it

Go for it , drive a few Plus 8's and pick the one you fall for , its as simple as that !

They are great touring machines and I find the seats really comfortable I'm a 6'er and there is plenty of room. They are a relaxing drive mostly due to the powerplant and cover the ground very quickly.
Allow 22mpg as a normal and you won't be disappointed - touring you should better this, luggage wise a rack sorts that out.
Sure there will be a bit of moisture coming in but you can soon fix it or keep it mopped as I do, I don't like little extra bits of rubber etc stuck on spoiling the originality but that's just me.
If it is possible to try one from a dealers for a weekend you would know very quickly, I'll bet if you turn up in the Fezza they would agree.
My advise from the heart would be get one now while you can before they outlaw all these wonderful machines that we are lucky enough to enjoy.

It will if a bit if crude and a bit of wet is acceptable.

Can all these people really have got it wrong?

Been out for a drive over some Welsh mountain roads today. three trad +8s, you should try it, Motoring becomes a thing of pleasure again. Living the PAST, but boy is it FUN. Get out there and try it.
