The 5 speed MX5 box is a Mazda box. The 6 speed MX5 box is not a Mazda box, they are from a contract gearbox maker.

I believe Mazda only supply Mazda gearboxes to other car makers.

The 6 speed box suffers from a higher level of complaints of notchy changes.

I've noticed that in First and Second gear. Apparently Redline or Castrol Syntrans work wonders.

+1 I bought my first Morgan M3W about three months ago and am now looking for a late model plus 4.

Must be the lack of door pockets that gives you more room. innocent

Ha Ha. Seriously, though both cars use the MX5 gearbox, it may be mounted further forward with the smaller engine, allowing the trans tunnel to be a tad narrower. Jays would know how they look on the production line, but I imagine he's having too much fun in Spain & Portugal to read this.

Only just picked this up! The gearbox is actually mounted further back in the 4/4 and has a direct acting gear-lever rather than the remote of the Plus 4.

I'm swaying towards the 80th
What did you decide?

I'm saying nothing, I'm unlikely to be impartial.

Have a happy anniversary when it comes.

Congratulations! I've only seen one in the metal and it looked great. It stands out in a crowd of Morgans and I have no doubt will be much sought after in years to come.
