Hi , I have not used my Roadster for 4 weeks. Just started her and the amber engine management system light is on. Went out for a 4 mile trip with no problems. Has anyone a suggestion what might be wrong ? Does my car have a diagnostic socket that once connected to the correct software would identify the fault code ? Since my engine is a Ford 3 litre ST220 Mondeo engine would my local Ford centre be able to do this work ( I am a long way from a Morgan Agent. Any advice would be appreciated.

They do have a diagnostic socket and several owners on here have purchased a reader at reasonable cost to reset the fault - this is a quite common fault. If you do a search in the repair and maintenance you should find chapter and verse. From memory I think it's under the dash.
Another Roadster owner will come along soon with help - I'm a Plus 8 man.

It should have a socket, as Richard says, under the dash. Usually in the drivers footwell, but could be on the passenger side too! It looks like a SCART socket that you'd find on the back of a TV. I have a diagnostic reader and live near Petworth - it wouldn't be a huge drama to come out and meet you. Can't guarantee that my reader will read your engine, but it's likely it will. It's probably an oxygen sensor - that's a wild guess.

A code reader is almost becoming an indispensable tool in the kit which we carry in the car.
I am afraid that I don't know which model is most suited to the Roadster BUT most of the generic ones will allow you to interrogate the ECU , read the fault codes and delete them. IF they return after deletion then start the diagnosis and remedy the problems.

In my experience the Ford engines/ECUs use fault codes that after market/inexpensive OBD readers cannot sort out. Your Ford garage could probably sort fix it, but you could ask DaveW who also has an S1 Roadster and is something of a Guru.

The S1 Roadster is a Jaguar base engine rather than ST220. There are subtle differences. But a 2007 car may well be an S2 with the Escape engine.
The S1 has speedo and revcounter in front of the driver plus 4 small gauges across the dash. The S2 just the revcounter in front of the driver with the speedo and 3 in 1 gauge in the centre panel.
Oh and S1's, are not known for showing engine warning lights. It's very unusual.

The S1 is not a jaguar based engine. The S1 is Mondeo 220 The S2 is Ford Escape.... The Jaguar engine has Variable valve timing and bucket tappet operation, whereas the Mondeo engine is fixed timing and finger followers Simon @ SiFab.co.uk

Well Simon, when I discovered that my engine didn't take the ST 220 oil filter and took the Jag/Zetec filter I asked the factory , because the 220 filter is bigger. They told me that the base engine was Jaguar. I might still have the response - I'll have a look later!

The engine is Mondeo The original prototype (now owned by Tim Harrison) used the Lincoln/Jaguar engine All Production S1 used the Mondeo engine Simon @ SiFab.co.uk
