A normally fitted steering wheel requires tools to remove. Not easy unless a determined and tooled up thief is trying. A simple removable one is very vulnerable. Simple release mechanism so no tools. A lockable removable is less so again requiring tools to sort the lock. The locking boss type may cost more but worth it.
I'd considered a QR wheel before but decided against it as I had a pretty new Moto Lita. I looked at the Simmonds QR boss that utilises your existing wheel and it seems the ideal solution, I have ordered one, they have them in stock and said they'll ship it on Monday. I doubt I'll remove it except when getting in and out with the hood up, which is always a bit of a struggle (I'm not exactly small ) As far as someone stealing it is concerned, how would they know it's quick release? They're not so popular so I doubt a casual thief would even think to try it. (Hope I don't live to regret saying that )
Having opted for the QR steering wheel on my ARP4 I found the driving position to be a little too cramped with my hands too close to my chest. Replacing the QR with a fixed steering wheel realised an extra couple of inches to extend my arms. Much more comfortable. Furthermore there's now a couple more inches of space to enter and exit the car so I don't need a quick release wheel anyway! In short it seemed to me that the fitting of a QR wheel contributed to one of the problems that it was supposed to resolve. I guess the latest QR steering wheel that doesn't add those extra inches will give more food for thought but personally i see no need for them.

Just fitted the QR steering wheel boss, took longer than the 10 minutes suggested on the website (what job ever takes 10 minutes? Especially on a Mog!), probably because the old boss didn't want to come off and because it takes a while to remove the wheel from the old boss then refit it to the QR boss. It certainly makes it easier to get in and out of the car and doesn't move the wheel closer. Before and after photos attached.
